Chapter 14

JAMES We're surrounded by cameras that keep track of our actions. That way they're ensuring something unexpected wouldn't happen. Even if it did, they could easily manage it by blowing our heads. No doubt, they've planted something in us while we were unconscious. They've laid out a perfect plan for this show. Nothing can counter it." "So in other words, you're saying there's no way out." Dave mumbled. "No." I wriggled my head. "I'm saying for a plan this big, there certainly is a tiny loophole. If we can just find their weakness, we can turn the tides of the game. We can survive." I explained. "We barely know anything about these people, how are we going to find their weakness?" Eve answered and I turned to my left, looking up to the tree branch above us. There was a camera rooted there and I stared directly at it. "You're right, how are we going to find their weakness?" I said to no one in particular. "They're watching everyone and that includes us. I'm sure they're even amused or probably laughing at us thinking we can escape. But then," I paused as I walked towards the tree with my gaze still fixated on tbe branch. "It's not like you have eyes everywhere, do you?" I asked the camera and I had the feeling their focus was on me this time. Although, Fear was still ruling my insides, it wasn't going to help us in any way. If we were going to survive, we had to be brave. "Either way, we should probably get out of here. It's not going to be safe for us if we stay here any longer." Jason said. "There's no safe place on this Island Jason." Dave uttered. "Actually there is." He replied and I turned to him immediately. "I woke up close to a waterfall, I was the only one there and I doubt anybody could easily find that place." "Still, we don't have any guarantee that the place hasn't been discovered yet." Daniel said. "It's still worth a shot. Someone might find us if we continue to stay here." She answered. "Yeah, I certainly don't want to end up dead so I say we should give that place a shot." Dave muttered and they glanced at me as if they were waiting for my say. "Yeah..." I nodded while thinking of finding this loophole. We stealthily threaded along the path we took. We had been walking for minutes now and we still hadn't arrived. My strength was fading by the moment, I could barely keep my gaze lucid. There were also the pains from my injury that stung. I wasn't sure if I could last the next minute but I also didn't want to hold them back either. So I kept pushing even though it took every ounce of energy in me. We finally arrived at a small cave and just a few meters away was a waterfall whose waters were storming down thunderously. Apart from the water noise, It felt eerily quiet. My heart was thumping like crazy with every step we took towards the cave. "Are we seriously going to enter that place?" Dave mumbled in a scared voice. "It's the only shelter here." Daniel answered, closely following behind Jason who led the way. "We don't even know what's lurking in there. Maybe some wild animal or someone wanting to stab us to death..." "Then you can stay here then." Eve answered, it was already evident she was tired of Dave's ranting. "How are you feeling?" She asked as she came to my side with a concerned expression painting her face. "I'm holding up..." I whispered. "You don't look too good." She whispered. "You should rest when we get inside." I nodded. "Gosh, looking at the waters are making me so thirsty." Dave muttered. "You can go ahead and drink Dave if you're willing to end up dead like those at the shore." Jason answered and Dave groaned. As we neared the mouth of the cave, Jason held us back. "I'll go check inside, just to see if it's safe." He whispered. "I'll join you, just in case." Daniel muttered and I frowned. He shot me a tiny smile with a nod. "You better come back alive." I said and he nodded again before joining Jason. They both threaded into the cave stealthily. I would have followed but in my condition, I would be a hindrance. I could only hope nothing bad would happen to my brother. And after a while, both of them came outside signalling us to enter. I heaved a sigh of relief and we immediately sauntered into the dark face. Our only source of illumination was the moonlight beams at the mouth of the cave. I quickly sat at the end of the cave with Eve and Daniel seated by my side. Dave on the other hand sat a few meters away from us while Jason stood by the mouth of the cave like a guard. I heaved another sigh of relief, my muscles were finally able to relax and the pain didn't strike as much. "I think this place should be safe till the morning dawns." Eve said. "It better be because I'm tired of walking." Dave said and moments of silence reigned between us. "Say, do you think we can actually survive?" Dave asked all of a sudden. He had a deeply worried expression. "We can." I answered but they remained mute. Even Jason was staring at me. "If we don't let our fears take control and carve out a well laid plan." "So where do we start from?" Jason asked. "Finding their weakness." Daniel mumbled. "How?" "I don't know but we'll figure it out one way or the other." He answered. "I just hope it isn't late when we do." Eve said with a sigh following alongside. I heaved a sigh too. "What made you apply for this show?" Dave asked Eve and we focused on her immediately. I could see it in her eyes, she was hesitating but then she heaved a light sigh.
