JAMES
Something had definitely happened while I was unconscious.
I glanced across their faces that beheld nothing but fear and horror intertwined.
"What happened?!" I raised my voice.
"Well," My brother uttered, "When you were attacked, We didn't leave you behind. Thanks to Jason, I didn't get hurt in the process." He answered but that didn't explain why everywhere was eerily quiet. I glanced at Jason, saying Thank you would be of no use. He was furious and he was barely containing it, no doubt Linda's death shocked him. It shocked us all.
"And after then, we kept running aimlessly trying to save ourselves. Everyone lost their senses, James." He paused while I gulped down my saliva. "Before we knew it, the forest had become a jungle. People began acting like animals, killing without mercy. We were only lucky to find this place." He paused again and I understood his plight. Thinking, reliving the horrors was already more of a burden than he could bear.
"It went on for about an hour or so and I'm pretty sure..." His voice trailed off as tears graced his eyes. "I'm pretty sure at least thirty percent of the contestants are dead."
"And what...what about the rest?" I summoned the courage to ask. His gaze lowered from mine.
"Every man for himself. All of us are lurking in the shadows waiting for the right time to strike our prey." He responded and a heavy sigh escaped my breaths. A part of me wished this was all a dream but it wasn't.
"This s**t is real..." Dave remarked, he was barely looking at anyone in particular. "They're expecting us to m******e each other all for some blood money!"
I sighed again.
"And just like that, Linda is dead." Jason mumbled. Our gaze fell on him.
"I still remember how excited she was talking about this damned show. If she had known this was where she would breathe her last, she probably wouldn't have been so optimistic back then..." His voice trailed off.
"Yeah..." Eve mentioned after moments of silence.
"She's gone and it hurts. But that doesn't mean we should give up. Although we barely knew each other, I'm sure she would want us to press forward. To find a way," She glanced at each of us. "A way of this shitty show!"
"But how?" Dave queried, his tone alone was enough to show just how hopeless he was.
"We're stuck on this God damned island! We can't even near the waters unless we want to be gobbled up. There's basically no way out."
"So what now? Are we supposed to turn on each other?" Daniel quoted.
"It's not like we have a choice..." Jason commented.
"We are not playing their games!" Daniel raised his voice with a deep frown anchored in his face.
"I didn't come here to murder anyone and I won't!"
"That's right." I mumbled and their attention fell on me. "I'm not going to allow them to use me just for their entertainment."
"So what do we do then?" Jason asked with a straight face.
"We find a way out just like Eve said." I answered.
"Maybe it's because you just woke up, that's why you probably don't know how hopeless our situation is." He retorted.
"I know fully well how dire our situation is." I clapped back in a slight growl. "Even if you decide to play their game, what gives you the assurance that you'll survive huh?" I glanced at Jason and Dave.
"In this show, there's only one person that survives. What makes you so sure that you'll be the one amongst three hundred. We're not even sure that if any of us happen to be the lone survivor, they'll spare us or reward us because from the beginning, this show was a sham!"
They went speechless.
"So yeah even if it looks like we're trapped, there should still be a way out if we think clearly." I added.
"I'm not sure any of us can think clearly at this point..." Dave remarked but I ignored him. There was no point being hopeless, I have to return. Return home to my sister. I wasn't going to die here.
"Let us start from the beginning," I started and their attention fell on me once again.
"First they collected our phones and any other accessories we had because they wanted to cut us off. And then they brought us to this place unconsciously so we wouldn't have even the slightest idea where we are or how we landed here.
This might be an Island like Dave said but we don't know that for sure. But what we do know is, this place is totally secure and cuts us from the rest of the world. We're surrounded by cameras that keep track of our actions. That way they're ensuring something unexpected wouldn't happen. Even if it did, they could easily manage it by blowing our heads. No doubt, they've planted something in us while we were unconscious. They've laid out a perfect plan for this show. Nothing can counter it."
"So in other words, you're saying there's no way out." Dave mumbled.
"No." I wriggled my head. "I'm saying for a plan this big, there certainly is a tiny loophole. If we can just find their weakness, we can turn the tides of the game. We can survive." I explained.
"We barely know anything about these people, how are we going to find their weakness?" Eve answered and I turned to my left, looking up to the tree branch above us. There was a camera rooted there and I stared directly at it.
"You're right, how are we going to find their weakness?" I said to no one in particular. "They're watching everyone and that includes us. I'm sure they're even amused or probably laughing at us thinking we can escape. But then," I paused as I walked towards the tree with my gaze still fixated on tbe branch.
"It's not like you have eyes everywhere, do you?" I asked the camera and I had the feeling their focus was on me this time.
