Chapter 16

JAMES "I get it okay but that's not enough to let them in. We can't trust them okay!" Jason blared. "Jason, if we don't help, that guy is going to die!" Eve argued. "So?! It's not like everyone on this Island is going to survive." "Jason!" Daniel blared. "Look I don't trust them, not in the slightest!" He retorted. "I second that!" Dave pitched. "The only people I can trust are you guys and that's because we've been together from the beginning." "Exactly," Jason interjected. "If this is how we're going to be sympathetic towards everyone just because of some crocodile tears then we'll have no chance of survival at all!" "Please, I swear we mean no harm…" The lady cried. "We can't just leave them out here…we just can't, at least we should stop his bleeding first." Eve mumbled. "Yeah… Let's just help them, we'll just have to stay on guard." Daniel mumbled and without further Ado, Eve walked towards them and my brother followed too. "Ah, we're so gonna regret this…" Dave grumbled as he walked inside back. Jason stared at me, as if he were expecting me to say something. But what could I say? I was the indecisive one here. I wanted to help them yet I didn't trust them. "Those two will only get us into further trouble in the future." He said and then walked away. I needed no soothsayer to tell me he was angry. I couldn't blame him though, after all the horrors we've witnessed tonight, we needed to be as rational as possible. But here we were, letting our emotions get the better part of us. And after a while, Jason returned from goodness knows where. Dave maintained a safe distance from us. Eve was busy treating the guy's wounds while Daniel tended to the lady. I on the other hand remained on high alert just like Dave and Jason. Eve and Daniel might be trusting of those two but we weren't. "What's your name?" Daniel asked the lady. "Kate." She replied. "So how did…" His voice trailed off. "He's my friend, Jake." she said softly and my eyes fell on the unconscious guy laid beside Eve. "We decided to enter this show together, we thought we could be at least famous even if we didn't win the prize money…" Her voice trailed off. "But we were just as surprised as everyone was when all this happened. We tried to escape but there wasn't any chance for us to. And before I knew it, someone stabbed him…" Her voice trailed off again while tears gently trickled down her cheeks. "I- I thought I was going to lose him…" She cried. "I thought this was going to be the end of the road for us but thanks to you guys…" I heaved a light sigh. "You shouldn't thank us." Jason quoted icily. "I personally would have left you out there and just because you're in here with us doesn't mean you're part of us now." "Yeah…" Dave asserted. "Once your friend is okay, you're out." "That might take a while." Eve said. "What do you mean?" Jason questioned with a sharp frown. "His wound is quite deep and he's lost a lot of blood. If we want him to survive, he should stay here for a day at least." She explained. "This is another thing I knew would happen." Jason replied. "First you decided to help them and now they're going to be a burden to us." "We're not going to be a burden, I swear." Kate quickly intervened. "Yes you are!" He retorted. "It wasn't part of the plan for us to remain here for another day. Now because of you guys, we'll be forced to compromise." "You can leave without us, we'll be fine." "Really?" He scoffed, glancing at our faces. "I'm sure Eve and Daniel will once again soften up and persuade us to stay behind." "Hey we get it okay! It's not only you who has seen some deep s**t tonight. But if we're planning to leave this Island alive, we should at least try to save as many others as we can." Eve retorted. "You haven't even saved yourself yet, you're thinking of saving others?" "Yeah and what if I am?" She crossed her arms. "None of us wanted to do this in the first place, we were forced to." "At this rate, the both of you are going to mess everything up!" Jason blared. "That's enough Jason." Daniel raised his voice as he arose. "Stop acting like you're the only serious one here." "What?" He queried while approaching Daniel slowly. "I'm trying to survive here, not going to die because of foolish decisions." "Yeah right." My brother scoffed. "If it wasn't for James I'm sure you would have turned on us back then. Gone crazy, acting like a wild animal just like the others. So stop acting like you're the responsible one here!" Jason immediately grabbed Daniel by the collar, glaring at him with predatory eyes. "That's enough guys!" I yelled and their attention fell on me. "We've had enough for one night. We shouldn't be fighting. We should be thinking of a way out." And on that note, Jason left my brother. "I'm so sorry…" Kate whispered enough for us to hear. "Because of me, you guys…" "Oh please cut the crap." Jason blurted and then he returned to the mouth of the cave. "Well this is what happens when we make divided decisions…" Dave interjected. "Oh shut up!" Eve pitched infuriatingly. "What now? You're going to transfer your aggression on me now." "Dave!" I called and he went mute. Just like that, an awkward silence reigned amongst us. Each of us engulfed in our own world of thoughts. But one thing I could learn from their argument was that not all of us here could be trusted. Jason was a prime example. Dave on the other hand was someone who would ditch everyone just to save himself in times of danger.
