"Escaping here wasn't going to be an easy thing in the first place." I answered. "If we're going to survive, we would have to take risks."
"Yeah." Eve affirmed. "If we don't do this, we'll just keep on being at a disadvantage. We need to know the landscape first and then figure out a means to escape."
"Alright then, I guess we're doing this." Dave sighed and suddenly an alarm blared. We all took protective stances, looking around for anything odd. But we couldn't even detect where this loud sound came from or what it meant.
The alarm suddenly stopped and we stared at each other with confused expressions.
"All contestants should head south to the second Arena within the next hour."
The deep voice repeated again and I frowned. It kept repeating for the next five minutes and it suddenly stopped.
"Should we go?" Daniel asked me.
I sighed.
"We don't have a choice for now. If we don't, we might have our heads blown to pieces."
"I definitely don't want that, so I guess we're going then." Dave pitched.
Another sigh escaped my breaths, whatever lies ahead in that Arena was probably another bloodshed.
"This doesn't look creepy at all." Dave said sarcastically as we arrived at the south Arena alongside a few others.
He was right, this place spelt nothing but bad news. The gigantic building was standing on a gentle river. It's shape was like a dome and apart from the fact I found it weird, whatever that was going to be inside, would certainly be deadly. There were ten wooden bridges connected to the building. Each of them fixated at each side. Just one glance at the bridge, if one threaded it carelessly, they would certainly fall into the river. Nothing but death awaits in that river.
I heaved a heavy sigh. I hated it. I hated the fact that I had to heed to their instructions.
"Either way, we should start moving, I don't like the eyes on us." Daniel quoted behind me and I looked around. Some of the contestants were looking like hungry predators. I gulped down my saliva.
"Yeah, we should get going. That look is dangerous." Dave answered and he took the lead threading on one of the bridges. Daniel followed next, Eve went after and then I took the last spot. After five minutes walking on the bridge we finally arrived at the dome building. There was a black door before us with a white Omega sign inscribed on it.
"Whatever happens, we stick together okay." I said and they all nodded. Dave pressed forward to the door but it slid open by itself. We gave each other one last glance before pressing inside. As we sauntered inside we were immediately welcomed with glaring eyes, about a hundred contestants were before us. They were apparently waiting patiently. Some of them had blood stains across their skins and clothes, some look petrified, and some look like they weren't bothered. We quickly gathered ourselves to a quiet spot and the door closed automatically. The room was dimly lit, at the top there was a screen hanging from the ceilings. No doubt, it was going to light out and some cursed voice was going to give another dreadful order. I looked around closely, there were cameras fixed at each side of the room. The doors were perfectly shut, there weren't any windows or large openings for air which meant one thing. Another m******e was likely to happen. This was a perfect opportunity for them to completely wipe us out. But I doubted this was where they were heading too. This was a show and hundreds of viewers were watching, killing us all in one strike would be a bad move for them. But that didn't mean a few of us weren't going to die.
"Guys…" I called in a whisper and their gaze fell on me. "We should have prepared for the worst. I have a feeling something terrible might happen to some of us here."
"Yeah…nothing good ever comes out from that damned screen." Dave whispered back.
"Not to mention there are some scary people among us." Eve remarked.
"Yeah, we stick together no matter what happens." Daniel's voice trailed a whispery path. An hour had passed and no more contestants stepped inside. The screen brightened with an omega sign on display. I gulped down my saliva trying to allay my growing anxiety.
"Congratulations to the one hundred and fifty contestants who passed the first stage. I'm sure you guys enjoyed yourselves. Your viewers were so much impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the show and they hope you all can keep the good work." Mr. E muttered in his deep baritone.
"What the f**k?! Who the hell enjoyed killing each other?" Dave whispered infuriatingly. There was also an outburst of murmurs amongst the others.
"Here are the top three contestants who performed exceptionally well." Mr. E muttered while the screen displayed images of two men and a woman.
"Miguel Garrison, Contestant Thirteen, he had a total of thirty kills. Mira Henshaw, Contestant twenty three, she had a total of twenty seven kills. Gabriel McConaughey, contestant forty, had a total of twenty three kills."
My gaze immediately darted to the crowd, searching for these three. Miguel was in the center, Mira and Gabriel were at separate corners. But it didn't matter either way, the rest of us took space away from them slowly.
Miguel didn't even flinch in the slightest. His gaze remained on the screen but in those eyes, I saw nothing but an emotionless man. Mira was coated in blood but she looked so innocent, if anyone had told me this woman could single handedly kill twenty seven people overnight, I wouldn't have believed it. Gabriel on the other hand, had a devilish smile and it made the people closer to him take further distance away from him. No doubt this guy was a psychotic man who enjoyed this.
"These people are bad news, we should stay away from them as much as possible." Dave whispered in a trembling voice.
