Chapter Forty-One “Lanni.” A hand on my arm wrenched me from sleep. “Lanni.” I opened my eyes. Even with the lights turned down, the bright white of the walls was foreign enough to send a zap of panic through my chest before I remembered where I was. Then a sturdier, longer-lasting fear settled into my stomach. “How are you?” Harper sat on the edge of my bed. “Fine.” I looked over to Mari. She was sitting up in her bed, eating. “They said I could have more if I wanted.” Mari grinned at me. “How are you?” I sat up and took Harper’s hand. “A little banged up, but my arm already feels better,” Harper said. “I just wanted to see you before your guardian comes.” “Guardian?” I asked. “You’re too young to be completely on your own,” Harper said. “The domes have assigned you a guardian.
