I left the big building and headed to my car with both envelopes in my hands. I enter the vehicle leaving the envelopes in the passenger seat. I lie down and close my eyes processing what was happening to me. "Pregnant, Hayley. You are pregnant, of all the things that could happen to you, this happens to you. What were you thinking?" - I scold myself - "You have approximately three months in a new job and are very strict in terms of health problems, what are you going to jump with now? I shouldn't have drank so much at that party ... But God! It was my graduation party!" - I inhaled and tried to calm down. - "You have no choice but to take charge, even if you get fired" I start the car and drive to my house. I introduce myself, Hayley Lawson, twenty-one years old, graduated in Graphic Design from the University of Chicago. Future mother of the boy or the nine-week-old girl who now lives in my womb. I live with my mother, Maria Lawson, a working woman and single mother since I arrived in this world. I never had the joy of meeting my dad, because he died two months before I was born. He was a policeman, he went out one night like any other until he never returned, the only thing that came back from him were his badge, his badges and medals. With him died a part of my mother, who had to cope with the duel in a sharp way, because she had me in her belly and could not fall. Twenty-one years later, she is still reminding him and is unable to move on and fall in love again. Me being her daughter, I would like to see her happy next to another man but well, it's her decision, my dad will always be the love of her life and if she doesn't want to fall in love again, I have to respect her decision. After about twenty minutes circling the city, I finally parked the car in front of my house. It was a pretty quiet Sunday, and beautiful. Sunny as rarely happens in The City of Winds. "Mom, I arrived!" - I exclaim closing the door. I leave my bag on the couch and go to the kitchen where I find that beautiful woman cooking. "Hi dear. I thought it would take you a little longer" "I told you it wasn't going to take long," I kiss his cheek, hiding the envelopes on my back. "What's today's menu?" - I ask sitting down "I have lasagna with a rich mashed potatoes and some meatballs" "Uff, how delicious" "In a few minutes you will be ready. What do you bring there?" - Approaches me and sits next to me. "They are the results of my visit to the gynecologist" - I say naturally. She knew that I would go looking for them today but she didn't know the reason. Just a few months ago, we went to our checkup together. "Oh Everything went well?" "Well yes ... "- my nerves began to make an appearance - "Everything was fine, but there is something that stood out in those results" "Honey, you're scaring me. Everything is alright? Are you sick?" "Mom ... I'm pregnant" - I released looking at his eyes, which opened to the fullest. Oh God.  "Pregnant? But how?" "Come on, mom..." She opened and closed her mouth without knowing what to say. I hoped he would take it well. "I want to hit you because you're too young to be a mom and it's not an easy task" - I smile when she hugs me. - "My little girl, you're going to be a mom" "And you're going to be a grandmother,"  I say and feel a tap on my back. "More respect, I'm still your mother." "It's true" "How much are you?" Does the father know?" "Nine weeks, and well ... I don't think he knows it, nor that he knows it in the future" "Hayley, don't tell me that ... "Doing the math, it was the day of my graduation party, I told you that I drank a lot that night ..." "My God, if your father were alive, he would be very upset with you. Let's eat and then talk. I don't want my hunger to go away" After lunch as if nothing had happened, Mom gave me a long talk about what is coming for me in the next seven months, she guided me with what I should and should not do, told me that for nothing in the world could I miss One query, because these were very important for me and my baby, I would find out in them if everything went well. She also told me that the first trimester was not easy, at least for her it was not, she guided me about many things, what she had learned in her experience as a single mom and told me that I had to follow the directions from the doctor. The next person to find out about my status was my best friend. Like my mother, she wanted to hit me for being irresponsible but in the end she was happy and supported me. She never got tired of telling me that if she wasn't the baby's godmother, she wouldn't talk to me anymore in life. Well, since I'm an only child, she would have to be the godmother. On the other hand, the next person to find out would have to be my boss. Mom told me that I had to be honest with her, because my state is not something that can be hidden for a long time. She told me that I would immediately arrive at the agency tomorrow, I would have to tell her. Soon my belly will begin to grow and it will be better for her to find out for me and not for another person. **** Monday morning started well for me. With a little discomfort but nothing that cannot be controlled. I dressed in my uniform that consisted of black dress pants, a white shirt with the agency logo on the left, along with black heels. I go down to breakfast with my mother and after having a small morning conversation, we both go to our jobs. I drive for about twenty-five minutes, and I arrive at the parking lot of the large building of the Bonavick Advertising Agency. I take the elevator and click on number ten, the last floor, and equally, the executive floor and where my workstation is located. As the elevator went up, I reviewed hundreds of times what I would say. Even though my boss was a young, beautiful, intelligent and pleasant woman, I was nervous, I didn't know how my confession would be taken. I expected it to be good as it has been for the entire time that I have been working here and it does not fire me. Still the nerves did not disappear, it was my boss, anyone would feel nervous to want to talk about something serious. I leave the metal box and walk safely to the small reception. "Hello Lay" - I greet one of the few women in this agency who, besides being my co-worker, is my best friend, Layla Jonsesh. "Good morning, Hails, how are you?" "Fine thanks and you?" "Well, a little relaxed for a change" - she smiles. Being the secretary and assistant to a boss is not an easy job, even if they paint it that way. - "What brings you here?" "Em ... I want to talk to Sofia, is she here?" "Yes, she is here but I don't know if she is available to talk, she came with a boy, I think with her brother, they look a lot "Well, can you call her and ask her? "Yes, of course - I see her typing a number and then she puts the phone in her ear. - "Hayley Lawson wants to talk to you, do I make it happen? Yeah right." - she hangs up - "you can pass" "Thanks, can I leave this here?" - I ask showing her my purse, she denies smiling. "You have something to eat?" "No" - I say giving her the object. " I'm going to throw it away, since it's no use having it" "Do it and I'll take yours" I tell her before slowly opening the door. - "Go ahead, Hayley" I close the door behind me and walk to the desk. In front of me was the beautiful woman I had as a boss and next to him, a boy with certain traits similar to her. It could be his brother, as Lay said. Sofía Bonavick, was a brown woman with big green eyes, as I understood she was thirty-two years old, married and with two children. She is tall and a slim body with all her curves located perfectly. she has two university degrees; graphic designer main profession and recently graduated in Business Administration. An enterprising woman in every sense of the word, inherited this great company after her father, Louis Bonavick, decided to retire and leave the business in the hands of their children. I don't know where this last name comes from, but I do know that this last name has been in the Chicago advertising industry for years. "Good morning" "Good morning, Hayley. First of all, I introduce you to my brother, Maxwell Bonavick" - the boy stands up and extends his hand towards me. - "He will be around the Agency for a few days" "Hayley Lawson, nice to meet you Mr. Bonavick" "The pleasure is mine, miss"- uff, what a deep and sexy voice. I give him a slight smile and seat. "Take a seat, Hayley." - I obey, she stays next to her brother, who takes a seat with her eyes on the iMac. - "You have something to tell me?" "This ... Yes ..." - I play with my hands as a product of nerves. - "Together with all the people who work here, you have given us the confidence of never hiding anything that could interfere with our work here ... Well, I ... I want to tell you something before the rumors get your attention and maybe worse." - Those green eyes are on me with some concern, Sofia turns the desk and sits in the chair next to me. "Is everything okay, Hayley?" - She takes my hands and gives them a squeeze. Showing support in whatever I am going to say. "I ... It's-I'm pregnant ... And I want to assure you that I will continue to do my job until my condition allows me" - I say so quickly without stopping to breathe. It's done. I told her. "I don't know what to tell you, more than congratulations" - she shows me a smile and I let go without wanting a sigh of relief. "Thank you" "A somewhat long and difficult road awaits you but I am sure that you and your partner will manage to cope" "I will be a single mother" - I respond with all the pride in the world. "Oh, sorry, I didn't know" "No problem… "Ok ... As for your work, I hope you promise what you said, yes, without endangering your life or your baby's life, if you need to take a break or a medical license, let me know in time , it's okay?" "I understand." - I stand up - "That was what I had to say, thank you very much" "Thank you for your sincerity, congratulations again" "Thank you" - I say again. I say goodbye to my boss's brother, and leave the office, but not before receiving a congratulation from him too. - "Lay, see you at lunch?" - I spoke frightening my friend, I laughed as I stood by her side to take my bag. "You scare me that way again and I have you fired" - she threatens. I throw a kiss and go to the hallway that led to my shared office.
