Emily sat on the bed looking sad and blank. She tried thinking of all possible ways to avoid the marriage from happening.
Should she fake a sickness or run away? "I need to do something." Emily thought to herself, sitting hopelessly on the bed with the neck support making it hard for her to turn properly.
"I am sorry, Emily." Mr. Simon apologized, walking towards her to console her. He tried to touch her hands but Emily instantly pulled away from him turning her face the other way.
Meanwhile, The mayor and Andrew were fast approaching the ward. Others followed. The nurses and all other patients were taken by surprise.
"What is happening," asked one of the nurses standing with a tray of bandages, a syringe, and some vaccines.
"Someone important must probably be in this hospital." Answered the receptionist, peeping from her desk.
As the mayor and Andrew get closer, Emily keeps thinking of possible ways to stop the wedding from happening.
"How can I get married in a hospital, in such a condition?" She asked her father who was standing and leaning on the wall.
His hands deeply into his pocket.
Mr. Simon shrugged his shoulders, "I will speak with the mayor to at least allow you to get properly dre..." The door opened wide before he could complete his statement.
"Yes..," Emily spoke aloud without knowing. Her face was bright as if she had seen her prince charming coming to save her.
"You said something?" Her father asked, arching his brow in confusion. "No. Nothing Dad." Emily answered, smiling brightly at him.
"Good morning Mr Mayor." Mr Simon greeted, bowing his head a little in respect.
The Mayor stood frozen at the sight of Emily's condition.
He walked towards her and other guests followed suit. "This is critical.
" He said, gazing at Emily's body covered with bandages and plasters.
Emily felt relief wash over her, leaning her head a little back and taking in a deep breath but before she could breathe out, the mayor's words chucked her.
"But the wedding will still go on, my Dear," he said, smiling and walking away like a prince.
Emily coughed uncontrollably, "What! Excuse me,
Mr Mayor." Emily spoke but her words weren't as clear, the neck support kept making it hard for her to voice out properly.
Andrew approached her, smiling mischievously, "There is a first time for everything and as I want us to get married properly, this will be the best wedding." He said, his blue eyes bright with joy.
Emily sat on the bed looking at him, tears already filled her eyes and were about to drop before her father gave her a handkerchief. "Here," he handed it to her.
"Let's get started, Shall we." Said the mayor to the priest, clipping his fingers together.
"Uhn," the priest clears his throat. "Yes, let's get the young one married." He added.
Andrew stood beside Emily, the priest opened his bible and began the vows.
"Do you, Mr Andrew accept Emily to be your wife, in good health and sickness, and in good times and worst?" Said the priest to Andrew.
"Yes, I do."
"Do you, Miss Emily, accept Andrew to be your husband in good health and sickness? For better or worse?" He turned and spoke to Emily.
Emily was silent, tears filled her eyes. She turned and looked at her father, shaking her head sideways with a notion of 'Please Dad, I can't do this.' but her dad nodded his head and gestured his hands for Emily to calm down and be patient.
Emily turned and looked at Andrew who was beaming with a full smile and happiness before turning back to the priest. "I.. I.." her words kept everyone in suspense waiting for her to accept.
"I.. I. I can't do this." She finally spoke, with a trembling voice, tears rolling down her eyes.
"What!" Almost everyone in the room screamed in shock.
Mr. Simon walked up to his daughter without hesitation, "Emily, what's the problem?" He asked with a curious voice, arching his brow in frustration.
"I am sorry Dad." Said Emily, crying profusely.
The mayor got angry and walked up to her. "Look, young woman, this wedding must go on.."
"I am pregnant with my boyfriend," Emily said, her words dropping like a bombshell on everyone's ear.
"What!" The whole room screamed in disbelief.
The priest upon hearing that, "Oh Lord have mercy upon your children," he said and fainted.
Both Andrew and Mr. Simon asked with curiosity simultaneously. "She is pregnant!" Andrew asked in disbelief, his eyes wide open in shock.
Right after, Mr Simon asked too, "You are pregnant!? Arching his brow in confusion.
Andrew stood frozen, looking at Emily with eyes widened in shock and disbelief.
What did he just hear? He turned towards Mr Simon,
"Are you people trying to scam me!?" He asked with a thunderous voice, arching his brow with fur.
"No.. no Mr Andrew. It isn't what you think," said Mr Simon, his tone low but sharp. "There must be a mistake.
" He added, looking at Emily.
"Well, there's only one way to find out." The Mayor spoke, his tone sounding ridiculous, holding his hands firmly together behind his back.
Everyone's eyes turned to him in anticipation of what he had to say further.
"Let's run a pregnancy test.
" He added turning away and leaving the room. Andrew followed.
Emily raised her head in shock. A test? Her secret will be revealed.
What should she do now? But nothing came into her head.
The sample was taken and the result was expected to be out in a jiffy.
The doctor ran some tests and the result was out. Looking at it, he was taken aback, shocked and speechless.
The mayor and Andrew all stood in the office waiting for the doctor's response.
"What is it, doctor?" Andrew asked with an eager tone.
He wants to confirm his suspicion about Emily so he can have more reason to make her life miserable.
The doctor drops the result before Andrew. Picking it up, Andrew's eyebrow rose in disbelief, "What the h*ll!" He mumbled softly
