Chapter 3 ~ Finding Her Place

VIOLETS POV***          I wanted to explore the house. Sam wanted me to eat something but I was able to convince him I wasn't hungry. He still was hesitant but let it go nonetheless. He wasn't going to force me to do something I didn't want to do.          Maybe I would eat after a tour or something. I was hungry but curiosity got the best of my hunger. Sam showed me around the house. Where the bedrooms were, where the bathrooms and other rooms were. They even had a game room and a theater on the second floor.           The last room he'd shown me was his, which was on the top floor. Most of that floor was his room aside from a bathroom and a small living room. I looked around, taking in the design. It wasn't like the rest of the house, although it kept to the same color scheme, it was more, Royal feelings. The intricate designs carved into the bed frame and followed along the walls made the most difference.            I looked out of the large window across from his bed. It was rounded at the top but mostly squared. From it I could see most of the land. It was quite the view. Nothing like my pack house. I looked down and across the grass was a group of people. They seemed to be sparring. Training warriors was probably what they were doing. The group suddenly stopped as a young woman gathered them around her.          She was beautiful. Red hair hung in braids down her shoulders as her blue eyes scanned each and every warrior. She commanded their attention. She radiated power. I could feel it from the house.          I jumped slightly, feeling hands rest on my hips, heat spreading around that point of touch. It was Sam. I'd almost forgotten he was there.          I pointed at the woman, "Who is that?"           Sam looked where I was pointing and smiled, "That's Payton. Katherine's daughter. She leads and trains my warriors. Quite good at her job if I'm being honest."            I focused back on Payton. She was demonstrating something because one of the men wasn't doing it right. I wanted to meet her. I wanted to train with her. Become strong like her. She grabbed the hand that was thrown at her, pulling him to her before bending down and flinging him to the ground over her back. He landed with a grunt.           "I would like to go see her train... if... that's okay?" I was hesitant and he could see that. I never was allowed near any of the training that I so badly wanted to join. I didn't want to have to sit there and be beat from head to toe anymore. I wanted to be able to protect myself.           Surprisingly, he nodded and led me out to the field.            I stopped just short of the group of people. Now that I was out here, I could smell all of the sweat and heard the pants coming from the warriors as they worked tirelessly to train.          "Alpha Samuel." Payton stopped, turning towards us and bowed.          "Payton. Everyone, this is Violet, your new Luna." His gaze was locked lovingly on me and I couldn't help but cast my eyes downward.           I looked up when I caught movement. The warriors had stopped what they were doing and kneeled, bowing their heads to me.          "They really don't have to do that." I whispered softly to Sam. I'd only just gotten here and already, they were treating me like I was some all mighty god. Maybe I was because I was mates to their alpha but we hadn't even consummated yet. Just thinking about it had me blushing furiously.            "You're their Luna. It's only done as a sign of respect." He whispered back.            I nodded and they all stood up. Payton walked forward while the men began their training once again.           "To what do we owe the pleasure?" She asked. She was very formal. But something in her eyes told me she'd seen some things in her days.             "Violet here wanted to watch you all train." Sam spoke.            "A-Actually, that's not the only reason." I stuttered our. How was I supposed to ask this when I wasn't even in touch with my Lycan? Sam definitely wouldn't go for it.            Payton raised her eyebrow in surprise, "And what exactly did you come here for then, Luna?"            "Please, call me Violet. There's no need for formalities. Really." She narrowed her eyes and nodded. I took that as my cue to continue but I had a hard time, fidgeting with the edge of the sweater I had on.           "I want to start training too." I had to blurt it out otherwise it never would have made it past my lips.           "What? No, Violet, that's not happening. You haven't even shifted yet." You knew Sam would say that. Leave it to him to tell you something you already knew.           "Please? I know I haven't shifted but I'm not saying to train as hard as these guys. At least not until I do shift. Besides my birthday is coming soon and I should be fine!" I trembled, I had to start doing at least something. I couldn't just sit in this huge house doing nothing.            "Violet, I said n—" he was cut off by Payton's hand resting on his shoulder. I don't know why I felt jealous but I did.             "I will take care of her. I'll train her away from the other warriors. You should give her a chance." Sam looked back and forth between me and Payton before rolling his eyes and sighing.             "Fine. But if she gets injured, I'm coming after you." He pointed his finger at her and I excitedly squealed, launching myself into his arms.              It shocked both of us but he wrapped his arms around me and smiled into my shoulder. I could feel him scenting me. I realized that I may have overdone it and pulled myself down from him, clearing my throat. He growled lowly but I just smiled at Payton.              "Come on." She motioned to me with her hand, then gave a command to the warriors before she led me to a greenhouse looking structure. It was all glass so I could see around us to the outside but there weren't any plants in there. The floor was made of brick but was covered by multiple cushioning mats.                "Since you're only human, we'll start with the basics. This way you don't have to rely on your Lycan strength." She put on some circle shaped gloves that were padded and red. I doubt she actually needed them. She was a wolf, I was only human.               "What do I do?" I asked, not quite knowing where to start.               She chuckled, it sounded like a beautiful melody that an angel would sing, "Put your arms up, hands into fists, blocking your face. And stand like this so your opponent can't see an opening. Keep yourself blocked at all times." She put her left foot forward and kept her right a little bit behind her, bending her knees slightly. I mimicked her stance. She corrected a few things but I managed to get most of it right.                She had me take jabs at the gloves. Right, left, right, right, dodge, repeat. She added a few moves involving me trying to trip her or go for a blow to her stomach.                 I decided to get a little sneaky, my confidence building by the second, and when she had me repeat the jabs, I feigned going right before sending my fist right into her stomach. It didn't effect her much but she stumbled back, surprised by the attack.                 "Don't leave your guard open, Pay." I raised my eyebrow. She followed suit with her facial expression, a wicked grin spreading across her features. Uh oh, what did I get myself into.                  She charged, ducking low, picking me up by my thighs and slammed me into the mats. The air left my lungs as her weight settled on top of me.                  I tried to breathe in but I couldn't. I groaned out and she lifted off of me. She chuckled and held her hand out. I reached for it, my world spinning when she tugged me to my feet. Finally breath filled my lungs and I coughed roughly.                "Damn. I didn't do anything that bad to you." I huffed out.                "You get what you take 10 times worse, Violet." Man was that an understatement.                She turned from me, taking the gloves off to throw them back where she found them. The hairs on the back of my neck suddenly stood up. Something wasn't right.                I turned to my left, towards the woods, and just outside the glass it felt more ominous than when we first walked in. I shivered, not wanting to look at it any longer than I had to.                 Just as Payton turned back to me, the glass shattered, a piercing scream tore from my throat and the world turned black as the glass shot into my skin and the impact pushed me to the ground.        SAMUEL'S POV***         I was weary of having Violet train. She was still technically human. I smelled it the first time I got close to her and it was obvious by the way her wounds didn't heal. Why? That's something I didn't know. No one knew. I contacted her parents because they'd been calling ever since I got her away from the hospital.           They would just have to accept it. It was the law. She was my mate and she belonged with me. It was that simple.              But they didn't know why she hadn't shifted either. She was almost 18 and she hadn't even got her senses yet. She apparently knew when she would shift. She said it would be on her 18th birthday. That's only how I knew. But we couldn't know for sure.            I asked her when her birthday was and while she was hesitant to tell me, she said it was in a week. I didn't know if she'd appreciate a party but I had a feeling birthdays weren't the best for her. I would change that though.             I sighed for the umpteenth time today, looking through financial papers after I had left Violet to Payton. As much as I loved being alpha, some things were just too tedious.             My door burst open and Seth came in panting.             "Seth, what the hell? What happened?" I stood from my chair. My heart clenched. Please don't say her name.             "It's— it's Violet. There was an attack at the triage."
