I never believed my life would come down to a signature.
One swipe of the pen. That’s all it took to tie my fate to Aiden Blackwood — the man whose eyes were as cold as the steel skyscrapers he owned.
“Sign it,” he said, his voice clipped, like he didn’t want to waste a single breath more on me than necessary.
The paper trembled in my hands. Marriage contract. Legal and binding. Three years. No emotional involvement. No intimacy unless requested. A million dollars by the end of it — enough to pay for my mother’s surgery twice over and give her a chance at life.
I looked up at him.
He didn’t smile. He didn’t blink. He didn’t even pretend to care.
“I don’t have all day, Miss Lane.” He said
I swallowed the lump in my throat, my pride, and the last pieces of my innocence. Then I signed.
“You’re mine now,” Aiden said, standing and walking away like he’d just closed another business deal, he didn’t look back.
Because to him, that’s all I was.
