"Mr. Williams, the Carpenter family has already sent Sophie's old family to prison and hired a well-known lawyer. It looks like they’re doomed this time."
I barely glanced up from my papers. "Hmm."
The outcome was expected. The Carpenters weren’t the type to let something like this slide.
"The Carpenter family is preparing for a family recognition banquet," my assistant continued. "I assume they’ll be telling the wife the truth soon."
At that, I finally raised my eyes slightly.
The Carpenters had handled the situation well. Ruthless where necessary, efficient in their approach. More importantly, they seemed sincere about bringing the little girl back.
If she was willing to acknowledge her roots and return to them, then fine. It wouldn’t be a bad thing
