As the truck rumbled along the dirt road, I glanced at Mia, who leaned against me with her eyes half-closed. Despite everything, she was holding up well. The driver, whose name was Tom, kept his eyes on the road but occasionally glanced at us in the rearview mirror.
"How did you two end up out here?" Tom asked, breaking the silence.
