Chapter 4

Max’s Point of View “Hector let me go or I swear by all the gods of Rome I will rip your throat out,” I said as I struggled to get back to Elaina, She is in pain, I caused her pain. Was all that went through my head. Hector held me firm in his arms, as I became more and more desperate to get back to my mate My Bride. I was ready to cry again for the second time that day, but for a far more painful reason than before. “You need to calm down, let our sisters tend to her. They are more helpful to her than you right now.” Hector said as he slammed me onto the floor to better keep me restrained. I was still fighting him when our father walked in, “Max she is fine, she isn’t one of us the marks hurt more when you aren't a coldblood, it’s temporary.” He crouched before me to help Hector hold me steady, “Your sisters will help her deal with this, they had to deal with it as well, your mother gave her a blessing mark.” I looked up at my father to see him smiling, the smile that he reserved for talking about my mother was sad and proud at the same time. “ I know that it’s hard and you just want to make it stop but you won’t help her right now.” He continued on “ We do need to have a talk about this anyway, you have never been drawn to a female like this before. And Elaina is not a simple girl she needs to define herself not just as your bride but as a person.” Sensing I was calm enough both my father and brother allowed me to get to my feet. My father put his hands on my shoulders and made me look into his eyes, “This is not a simple thing especially while mating, you will feel the urge to be by her side at all times, to protect her from everything and everyone, even us, not to mention the s****l urges” “Eww alright dad I get it, stop. I’m calm now just stop.” I yelled as I jumped back from my father, while my brother was on the ground laughing his ass off. I sighed and stared at my now laughing father. One of the most feared historical figures in all the world and he has to be the involved parent with no filter or control. “Dad, did you seriously mean anything you just said, or were you just trying to snap me out of it and traumatize me in one go?” This made my brother laugh harder and my father stop laughing, this was not a good sign. He straightened up and cleared his throat “ I was being serious when you find your bride it’s not easy, your mother almost killed me multiple times. I couldn’t be without her and had it not been for her patience and a skillet every now and then who knows how many of my siblings I would have decapitated.” He said thinking back to the time when he first loved our mother and how badly his siblings pushed his buttons when he brought her home. My father was the most destroyed by my mother’s death and he was the strongest many I could ever know, He could have slipped into the oblivion of grief and sorrow, but he didn’t. He helped us say goodby and continued to be our father. Looking to my brother I knew he thought the same thing, “Elaina is going to have a harder time than even your mother because for the first time she is free from the control of the council, and that bastard who had the nerve to call himself a father.” Dad was literally spitting mad as his fangs dropped, bad parenting was a serious point of contention for my father. “She needs to find out who she is and who her mother is. I have no doubt that your mother just gave us a clue.” He said with such conviction that we couldn’t doubt him or my mother. Thinking of what just happened made me feel even more guilty, “I put my ring on her finger and she started having some kind of seizure, her eyes went into the back of her head and she was shaking.”I sank into the armchair my brother had shoved behind me, “I couldn’t wake her up and when she did start to wake up she was screaming in pain in my arms” The place she is supposed to feel safest. My father walked over as I began to curl in on myself and placed his hand on my shoulder. “ She will be fine she just had to meet you, mother, she put a spell on the ring to show her a part of your mother that was put in that ring to help her understand later on.” He said, “She knew she wouldn’t be here when you brought her home so your mother planned ahead.” I nodded and looked up at my father “Thank you for helping me through this. Mom thought of everything to this point but without you to guide me I’d be lost.” He smiled down at me and my brother who had walked over to join us at this point, “I am your father this is one of the many things I have lived so long for my dear boy.” His smile turned mischievous, “It does me good to see that you are my son in so many ways including selection of female shapes.” Once again he traumatized me just to get a laugh out of my brother and himself. I groaned as I dropped my head into my hands, when the door opened and my sister walked in with Elaina who looked fine despite what had happened to her just moments before. Breathing a sigh of relief I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her, holding her to me taking in her scent. “Your mom said she loves you” she said quietly into my chest.
