Chapter 2: Where are you?

1727 Words
~Random fact: Rachel's fashion taste is very basic and grunge like~ My alarm clock buzzed off in my ear, making me groan. I turned over to look at my phone, quickly pressing the off button, not even bothering to look at the time.  A knock sounded at my door, making me jump. "Rachel sweetie, someone's here to see you." My mom said behind my locked door. My eyes grew wide, as I quickly hopped up. "Okay! Be out in a sec!" I told her. I heard her footsteps trailing off, taking this as an opportunity to get dressed and ready for school. I looked at my phone again, completely forgetting today was Friday and also my last day in detention. I also locked my door last night just in case Xiaojun came by, but sadly I never see him like I want to anymore.  Could that be him downstairs?? I rushed downstairs, excited to see if it was him, only to see my mom blushing over Kun. Kun looked over at me with an awkward smile, which I'm assuming was a cry for help. "Hey Rachel." He said nervously.  I gave him an odd look. "Hey?" I said awkwardly.  "Oh! Sorry. Your mom saw my car pulling up and so she invited me in." He said, looking over at her.  She stared at him in awe, as if she really had a crush on Kun.  "Yep. Okay. Bye mom!" I said, grabbing Kun's hand.  "Bye! Be safe! Love you! Use protection or not" She said, rushing to the door.  Kun rushed to his car as we both settled in.  "What was that about?" I asked.  He shook his head. "I have no idea."  I looked in the backseat. "Hey where's Michael?" I asked.  "Oh, he said he wasn't going to be able to make it to school today because he had to go to a funeral." Kun explained. Xiaojun suddenly crossed my mind, but I didn't want to seem like such a bother for bringing him up all the time.  I quickly thought of something to avoid the awkward silence between us or to avoid bringing up his name. "How long have you and Michael been friends?" I asked. Kun chuckled. "Since the 5th grade. Him and I were friends before me and Xiaojun were. Speaking of him, have you seen him??" He asked. Oh no. I still can't escape his name. "No." I lied.  "That's so odd, not only is Derek missing, but he's missing too."  "Missing? But I just saw-" I stopped myself.  Kun looked over at me, then the road, then back at me. "You saw him?" He asked.  I shook my head. "No, I forgot he was expelled." We pulled into the school's parking lot, but today seemed very odd.  It was quiet. Too quiet.  Detention wasn't even the same without Michael or Xiaojun. I mean don't get me wrong, I like Kun, but I missed us all as a whole. "Good morning my beautiful detention class!" The detention teacher said excitedly.  "Good morning!" Kun smiled. I looked around, realizing that it was just Kun and I in detention today.  "Wait, I never got your name." Kun said.  "It's very hard to pronounce, so I like to keep it simple. Just call me J." She said, kindly.  Kun chuckled. "What does the J stand for?" He asked. "Jerrissa." She smiled. "That's your name?! That's not hard to pronounce at all!" Kun said.  She shrugged. "True. Try spelling it." She smirked.  "Okay. Umm, J-u-r-" Kun said as he attempted to spell her name. "Wrong." "J-e-r?" "Bingo." "Okay. J-e-r...I....s-a?" She shook her head.  "Umm J-e-r-e-d...s-a?"  "Nope!"  "Okay I give up." She grabbed the marker from the board holder as she wrote it in big leaders across the board. JERRISSA  "Aaaaah. I was close!" Kun laughed.  "Sure." She chuckled. "How do you pronounce your name?" She asked him.  "Guess." He chuckled.  "Okay, Coon, like Raccoon." She joked. "What?! No! It's literally just three letters."  "Okay! Okay! I got this."  The intercom suddenly buzzed as we all waited to listen. "Ms. Stevens?" The speaker said.  "Yes?" She called.  "Could you send Rachel to the principal's office?" We all heard, making my heart stop. She looked over at me, as I gathered my things. "She's on her way!" Ms. Stevens said as the intercom went off.  "Everything okay?" Kun asked me.  I shrugged. "I don't know."  "Did you want to leave your things in here? I'll watch them for you." Ms. Stevens offered.  I nodded as I sat everything on the chair.  "So wait, who's Ms. Stevens?" Kun asked her.  She sighed. "Me. My last name is Stevens, I am a teacher, duh!"  "Oh!" Kun said.  I walked to the principal's office not sure of what to expect. I hope this isn't about that day I hit Derek with a baseball bat on school property. Maybe it was about Xiaojun and his mysterious disappearance, or Derek's. Or maybe cops are here to question that night we trashed Derek's brother's frat house, which I highly doubt they saw.  I walked in, as I looked around.  "Rachel?" I heard, looking over to see the principal and a lady with curly long brown hair, dressed in slacks, standing next to him.  "Yes." I told him. He motioned for me to come into his tiny office. I walked in, feeling a bit at ease but also worried.  "Hello Rachel, how are you?" He asked. "I'm....fine." I said awkwardly as I took a seat in the chair across from his desk. "This is Cheryl, she's our guidance counselor, she's new." He smiled.  "Hi, nice to meet you." She held her hand out for me to shake. "Hi." I said silently as I shook her hand, still confused as to what was going on.  "I've called you in here today to discuss the recent events you've had with Brittany, and her friends." He explained.  My heart stopped thinking about that day I threw the book at her head. "Umm yea."  "Would you like to share what happened?" He asked.  "Well, she was bullying me, her and her friends. They would push me, steal my things out of my backpack and my locker. They also locked me in the girl's restroom one day and the only way I was able to get out was through the window. I also missed my bus that day." I explained, spilling everything. They both nodded in understanding. "What about the day you threw the book at her, what happened that day?" He asked, putting his hands together as they both leaned in to listen.  "Umm, she-" I couldn't really tell them the truth. I couldn't dare tell them I was going to slit my wrist in the girl's restroom until they found me and threatened to tell everyone.... That's why I threw the book.  I had to think of a lie and quick. "She...tried to make me drink toilet water." I toldthem.  They both gasped. The principal suddenly started writing something down on a sheet of paper. "Instead of suspension or expelling you, I'm going to send you here." He said, handing me the paper.  I looked down to see Anger management written at the top.  "Anger management class?" I asked, not fully understanding.  "Rachel, you're a good student, actually one of our honor roll students, you're smart, you've never gotten a write up before either. We see potential in you and we don't want you to fall into that hole of hopelessness because we're here to help." He explained. "You're such a beautiful girl too." The lady smiled. "What about Brittany and her gang?" I asked curiously, hoping they'd get least get something worse, like arrested.  "They've been taken care of, you won't be seeing them for a while." He assured me.  I nodded. "Okay. When am I suppose to go exactly?" I asked.  "We have you signed for every Tuesday to attend, only in the mornings." "During school hours?" I asked.  "Yes."  "How would I get there?"  "We have a van that'll pick you and other students that have to attend as well up. Classes only last for an hour so once you get back, you'll get going to your second period class." He explained. I nodded.  You've really done it now Rachel... "Are you okay with that?" The lady asked. I nodded. "Okay. That's all I needed, thank you." The principal said as he stood up.  I stood up as well. "Thank you." I told them.  "Oh. We've also been trying to contact your mom, we can't seem to get through to her." He said, making my eyes grow wide.  Thank God I gave them her old number.  "Oh uh, her phone's off at the moment." I lied.  "Okay, I'll just email her." He smiled.  Fuck.  I nodded with a smile as I headed out of there. I walked down the hall, reading the note carefully.  "Anger management classes every Tuesday?! My mom is so going to kill me once she finds out." I told myself.  I walked in detention, quickly putting the paper away as I grabbed my things from my chair, sitting everything back on the floor. "Ooooh she's back. How'd it go?" Ms. Stevens asked.  "You okay?" Kun asked.  "I have to take anger management classes." I blurted.  "What! For what?!" Ms. Stevens asked.  "They called me up to ask me questions about why I threw a book at Brittany Fletcher's head..." I explained.  "Brittany Fletcher??? Ugh, I hate that bitch." Ms. Stevens blurted, making me laugh. Kun gasped. "Ms. Stevens!" "What?? She's a b***h. I remember they put her in here and she totally got me in trouble by asking could she go to the restroom but left school." "Wow. She is a female dog." Kun said shaking his head. "A b***h!" Ms. Stevens corrected.  After school I walked to my bus stop, things just didn't feel right anymore... "Hey!" I heard. I turned around to see Kun walking towards me.  "You need a ride?" He asked. I nodded as I followed behind him. The moment we both settled in the car, I looked down to see xiaojun's phone sitting in his cup holder. "That wasn't here this morning." I said, pointing at it. Kun looked down, picking it up with a confused expression as well. "What the heck." Was he here...?
