Chapter 93. Cook Seemed

1519 Words
The cook seemed to consider the idea for a moment. If she revealed everything she knew, Hunter would surely not hesitate to kill her on the spot. He had shown that he would do whatever he believed was right, even if it meant causing harm to others or their loved ones. That was the real reason she had started talking. She had no doubt that in retaliation for putting his companion in mortal danger, he could do the same to her. —I don't know— the woman exclaimed. Harley had learned to read men's behavior for a long time. She knew that the woman was clearly lying, trying to buy some time. —If the hour passes and we can't resolve this, we'll make you eat your organs— the elder of the werewolves declared. He didn't say those words seriously, but he had attended enough interrogations with his father to know how certain criminals reacted to threats. She seemed to be one of those who needed extra encouragement to realize that it was wiser to start cooperating. Hunter felt that anger was consuming him at this moment. He wasn't even sure if anything good would come out of this. He stepped out of the room for a moment, fearing that his next move would be to disembowel the woman. While he was in the basement hallway, he felt as if the world was closing in on him. It was as if the air was too thin, and there wasn't enough of it available. He needed to rid himself of the bad things that were happening to him, or he would soon have a breakdown. He thought of the woman he had encountered in the woods, the one who resembled the goddess Selene. He thought about what she had told him regarding having a connection with his wolf. Perhaps he needed to do his part to make things work better for him, as if he simply couldn't get things to work for him. Then, as if he had discovered something, he took a deep breath, feeling his lungs fill completely, as if there was a clarity in his mind that he didn't have before. He could feel a connection with his wolf. —You've taken longer than I ever thought possible— the animal whispered inside his head. —I'm sorry— Hunter replied. —I know what you're looking for... the answers from that girl, but you're looking in the wrong place—the wolf's voice sounded very deep and old, as if it were a soul that had gone through several lifetimes. Hunter didn't think that coexisting with him would be as easy as being open to the possibility. He had always thought it was much more complicated than that, but it wasn't. The wolf had always been interested in communicating, and he simply hadn't given it a chance to happen. Now he wanted to get to know him better and give himself a real chance with him. —I know it's not your responsibility, and I don't expect you to guess things that are beyond your control. I just want some guidance because inside, I felt like my body was about to explode— when the young man fell silent, the wolf did too, as if he were uncomfortable with the situation and didn't agree with what he was saying. —You're a smart boy, Hunter. You should know that I'm not interested in those matters— the way he avoided the topic didn't sit well with the young man. —You are a guide, and I would like you to guide me in this process. It's about werewolves and innocent people dying because of one man's twisted mind. Does it seem fair to you? George Garroway shouldn't be a person we should really worry about— as soon as the words left his mouth, he realized how deeply affected he truly was. —I understand your concern, Hunter. It's not fair what's happening, and you're right that George Garroway shouldn't be such a significant threat. But you must also understand that I cannot directly interfere in human affairs. My role is to guide and protect your wolf side, not influence the decisions you make as a human. Hunter nodded, although the conversation with his wolf was not going exactly as he had hoped. He knew he had to find a way to get the information he needed from the woman being interrogated in the next room and was willing to do whatever it took to resolve the situation. Back in the room, the cook still appeared nervous, but she now seemed more willing to talk. Hunter crossed his arms and stared at the woman. —You're wasting valuable time, and I don't want to resort to extreme measures— Hunter warned firmly —The sooner you cooperate, the faster we can find a solution to this. The cook took a deep breath and finally relented. —Okay, okay. What I know is that George Garroway isn't acting alone. There's an organization behind him, and they have much bigger plans than you can imagine. Hunter furrowed his brow, intrigued by the revelation. —What kind of organization? And what are they planning? The woman seemed fearful as she spoke, but she also realized she had no other choice. —I don't have all the details, but they call themselves 'The Black Moon Pack.' They're a group of werewolves who have been operating in the shadows for years. George is just one of their leaders, and they're planning something that involves all the werewolves in the region. Hunter processed the information quickly. He knew this was much larger than he had initially imagined. —Where are they? Where do they meet? The cook looked around as if she feared someone might be listening. —I'm not sure, but I've heard of a place called 'The Moon's Refuge.' It's the headquarters of The Black Moon Pack. It's somewhere in the woods, but I don't know the exact location. Hunter thanked her for the information and then turned towards the door. He knew he had to find his companion and put an end to the plans of this mysterious organization before it was too late. With renewed determination and the guidance of his wolf in his mind, he prepared to face whatever was necessary to stop The Black Moon Pack and protect his werewolf community. Hunter left the cook's room with determination. He had a solid lead on the existence of The Black Moon Pack and their operating location, the mysterious "Moon's Refuge." However, he also knew that time was of the essence and that he couldn't afford to waste it. As he exited the basement and returned to the main floor of the old house, he encountered his companion, Harley, who looked at him with concern in her eyes. She had been waiting for news, and her lips formed a faint attempt at a smile when she saw Hunter. —What have you found out?—Harley asked, eager for information. Hunter gave her a quick summary of what the cook had revealed about The Black Moon Pack and the Moon's Refuge. Harley furrowed her brow, digesting the information. —That sounds serious, Hunter. We can't allow this organization to proceed with their plans. We need to find that refuge and stop them. —I agree— Hunter replied —But first, we need to gather our men. We don't know for sure how many are involved in this, and I don't want anyone left behind. Harley nodded, understanding the importance of keeping their community united in this fight. Together, they made their way to the common areas of the house, where they had established their temporary base of operations. The rest of the pack was eager to hear the news. Hunter and Harley shared the information they had and prepared for an urgent meeting. They gathered all the werewolves present, even those currently in their human form. Each had a role to play in this critical mission. Hunter found himself in the center of the room once again, this time as a leader willing to face any challenge. He looked at his community and spoke with determination. —We have an opportunity to stop The Black Moon Pack and protect our people. We don't know how large this organization is or what their exact plans are, but we must act swiftly and precisely. We'll head to the Moon's Refuge and put an end to this before they cause more harm. Are you all with me? The werewolves nodded in agreement, signaling their unity and determination. They prepared for the mission ahead. Hunter could feel the strength and resolve of his pack. Together, they were ready to face any challenge and protect the innocent from the looming dangers. With his heart pounding strongly, Hunter led his pack into the woods, toward the mysterious Moon's Refuge, where they hoped to find answers and put an end to the threat of The Black Moon Pack once and for all.
