Chapter 8: 7 Moons

My groups and I are currently discussing here in the study hub, because we only have two weeks before our performance and we still don’t have any props. Since we are going to discuss the different Filipino deities, we need to dress accordingly. As you know, we have different deities in different regions so it’s important to know where they came from so we can plan or visualize the dress that we need to where.

“I have the character of Mayari, she’s the goddess of the moon and a lot of tales about her is from Tagalog region, especially Pampanga. I think it’s also important that we speak their language when we are introducing them.” Said Tin.

“I think she has a point, Carlos. More than the clothes, we should also consider the origin of our character.” One of our group mates agreed.

“But we’re not going to change the whole script, ok? We will just insert their native language once I introduce the said deity. Is that ok?” Good thing about Carlos, he always made us feel that we are part of the group and we have power to decide too.

And since it’s more convenient that we are just going to change our introduction for our character we all agreed to Carlos.

“Your character requires seven moons right?” Tin suddenly ask me.

Each day, I can see a progress on how she dealt on her situation but the glow her eyes will took a while before it comes back. The support group is a great help for the people like her, and the fact that she’s the one who is initiating a conversation right now is a good sign.

“Yes, I was thinking on how I can materialize it on my costume. Do you have any idea?” I ask

“Actually, I don’t have.” Then she slightly chuckles “I was just thinking if we really have seven moons now, what would be our situation?”

“Maybe our situation is reversed now, just like the situation of our grandparents in the late 2020.”

“Do you think so? I believe that we all here in this situation now because all of us are careless, we abused the planet we are all belong. That’s why I can’t understand it when people chose to abused the nature with their pettiness and lousy explanation. We might have seven moons or one or maybe none, but a lot of us will still choose to a***e the planet and they will end up like us.”

“I agree with that too, our community can’t even do the basic segregation of their waste. And I think it’s not enough to just do our part, we all must educate one another.” I reiterate.

“Migs and Tin, come here we have a new plan.” Carlos cuts our conversation by calling us again

After that conversation, I was awake till the afternoon to research the effects of the climate change and global warming and what I can do to lessen my part of causing it.

“That’s very fantastic job, Group 1. All of my feedbacks will be on our post conference when all the groups already performed. You all may now sit down. Group 2, you have 10 minutes to prepare your props.”

Weeks went by quickly, and today will be our performance for our Phil. Literature. Since we are the last group, we are still relaxing on our seats. We also joke around to the other groups about their performance, but I must admit that they did a pretty good job.

Now, the group 2 will start their performance and we all end up laughing because they chose to sing and rap even though no one in their group is good at singing or rapping. They are just enjoying it and that’s made us enjoy their performance too, even though they are not good at singingapping they were able to convey the message clearly.

When it’s our turn now, I will make sure to nail it because according to our seniors, our Professor likes to give an exemption for our exams if he likes the performance that’s why Carlos and our group made sure that everything will be smooth.

“Good morning, welcome to our humble museum. I am Carlos, and I will be your guide today…” Carlos starts with his line.

After that he defines what mythology is and the different deities that we have. Once he introduces our character, we made sure to introduce our character on their native languages; also this is our way of giving respect to the regions where they originated from.

When Carlos finally introduce my character I muster my voice so they can hear me properly because I’m wearing  a DIY serpent like dragon, that’s why I make my voice louder and bigger when I’m saying facts about my character,

My character is the Bakunawa also known as the moon-eater. Once upon a time it was believed that there were 7 moons but the Bakunawa likes it so much that he chose to possess them by eating them, until the great Bathala intervene to punished the Bakunawa before it even eat the last and only remaining moon.

When we are all done, our professor and the group leaders conduct a post-conference.

We are all just waiting and some of our classmates went to the nearby cafeteria to buy snacks while waiting for our grades.

Also, some of us are busy with their laptops because it’s exactly 1 week left before our 1st Mid Quarter Exam and we have a lot of deadlines today and this week. Good thing, I already finish mine because I did it with Carlos that’s why I have someone to ask for help when I didn’t understand some instructions.

When all my classmates already return including our prof. and leaders, they announce that all of us got the exemption! 1 down, 10 subjects to go! This time I learned that it is more convenient if I will do good in our subject and outputs because there’s a big possibilities that our professor will give an exemption on our exam so I will not stress myself by reviewing.

From now on, I will not be a mediocre student. And this is the start, so good job, self!
