Judas listened to Simon – carefully. He imagined the man sitting in his luxurious office, the place where he schemed and plotted the downfall of his business adversaries and the building of his new wealth, and with every word that Simon uttered, Judas felt more and more uncomfortable. You had to understand Simon, not just know him intimately; you had to always remember never to trust a single word that came out of his mealy mouth. The only person that Simon was loyal to was Simon. It had always been that way, so Judas listened carefully to his voice like a human lie-detector set to maximum perception. Did he hear a tremor here or there, was Simon trying to hide something or was he trying to sell Judas a big fat lie? Any of those options could not be disregarded lightly; breathing and lying
