Chapter 9 – Searching for packs. Jaspers POV Whilst we were at High school, Tracker explained that because we were in the larger city, we might be able to find out more information on my pack. We spent most lunch times pouring over local business information or trying to see if there were any indications of a wolfen business within the city. We did find one but as soon as Tracker saw who owned the business, he told me to leave that one alone. He explained it was the Silver Rose packs business and that wasn’t my pack. I didn’t know how he know that, unless that had been his old pack. I wanted to as him about his past, but he got angry and told me to leave it. We couldn’t find any information on any other local packs, and I was annoyed. How hard was it to find something, anything on packs in the country. “Look.” Tacker said and I noticed him pointing out a clipping about a wolf attack a few villages over. The newspaper said the attack took place in the hills not too far away from us. There was no talk about it being a large wolf though or a normal wolf attack, so I frowned again. “Isn’t there like a wolfen council we can go to, to see all the packs in the area?” I asked, annoyed. “There is, but technically were rogues.” I raised my eyebrow at him. “Rogues?” He sighed and put his head in his hand. “Ok so when a wolf doesn’t have a pack anymore then we gain a status of a rogue. The problem is that usually you have to either be kicked out of a pack or be denounced from a pack to get that status. Both of which didn’t happen to you.” I nodded but was still confused. He noticed and continued to explain. “So, you should still have some bond with your pack but that doesn’t seem to be true. Has Onyx said anything?” He looked at me. I sked Onyx and he didn’t answer me, so I shook my head. “Hes not answering me and has never mentioned the pack.” I answered, now wondering why he hadn’t. “Ok so youre a rogue. If they were close by you should be able to mind link them so they aren’t very close, however they have to be somewhere fairly nearby. Ivy says she found you washed up on the riverbed. Do you remember anything?” “Yeah…” I did but it wasn’t something I wanted to remember. “I fell off a cliff face near our pack border and landed in a ravine then I blacked out.” “Ok, so we can assume you travelled down river and that your pack was in some sort of hill area.” He pulled out a map of the area and traced his finger over the river that was out back of Ivys house. “Id assume your pack is around here.” He said, pointing to a hilly area to the north. He started stroking his chin, deep in thought. “Do you remember your surname?” He asked. I thought for a moment and remembered that I didn’t at all. “No, but to be honest I don’t even remember my parents’ names.” I said, a little sad by this. Although I had been raised with Ivy, her parents were not mine so it was sad I couldn’t only remember their faces. “Ok but you remember your dad was the alpha?” “I think so, I remember him always being busy and away, I remember him being the one people came to with problems. I also remember my mother being in charge of the she wolves. Dad would also train the other wolves.” Tracker looked serious. “Ok, so he might have been beta.” Onyx growled in my head, and I shook it. “Onyx doesn’t agree with you.” I stated. Tracker looked at me hard. “Had Onyx been around before you fell off the cliff?” He asked and I don’t remember him being so shook my head. “Ok.” We spent numerous lunch hours in the library with nothing to show from our time. Tracker refused to talk to his old pack and also said that the wolfen council wouldn’t talk to us. So, I decided to take things into my own hands one day. I picked a day where the lessons I missed wouldn’t mean a whole lot. History and English, both of which I hated were after lunch, so I slipped out of school. I walked through the city towards the building that Tracker had said was owed by the Silver Rose pack. When I entered it, I knew the receptionist was human and frowned. That wasn’t helpful. She hadn’t spotted me yet so I stayed near the entrance, hoping that someone who walked past me would eventually smell like a wolf. I was there around 20 minutes before someone entered. “Excuse me?” I asked the wolf. He seemed shocked to find a 13-year-old child in the building and looked around for my parents. “Yes?” He answered, concerned. He was a kind looking man with large blue eyes and greying hair. Tracker had told me that most alphas had the same name as their pack and that’s why he wanted to know my surname. “I’m looking for Mr Rose.” I said. The man looked at me confused. “Why son?” He asked and I saw him sniff me, trying to see if he recognised my scent probably. “It’s a long story but I’m lost.” I said, puffing my chest out to show how brave I was. He looked at me even more confused and then his eyes seemed to shift in colour. Mind linking? “Whats your name, son?” He asked. “Jasper.” “Jasper…” He wanted a surname and I sighed heavily. “I don’t know, Ive been lost 6 years or so. It really is a long story and I just wanted information on other packs in the area. I know Silver Rose isn’t my pack, but I don’t know any others locally.” He frowned at me and looked into my eyes. “What?” I asked, knowing he was looking for something and mind linking someone. “Youre eyes aren’t red.” He said, not a question, just a statement. I shrugged, well yeah, that wasn’t my eye colour. “Who’s been looking after you?” He asked, curiously. “Ive been living with a human family, but they don’t know anything.” I said quickly, knowing they wouldn’t like me sharing our secret with a human. “Ok, who are they?” When I hesitated to answer he said. “We won’t hurt them, I just wondered.” I still wouldn’t answer. “Ok, well Mr Rose isn’t here today and whilst I can give you some pack names, I don’t know how much help ill be. Will you give me your address?” He asked. Onyx started shouting in my head to run and I don’t know why, but I did. “WAIT!” The man shouted behind me but I ran straight out of there and all the way back to school, hiding in the toilets until the final bell went for home time.
