Chapter 10 – bad boy? Jaspers POV Where had the time gone? Me and Ivy were turning 16 this year and Tracker 19, he was in his final year because he was kept behind a year in our old school. High school had turned out to be a nightmare for me. My grades had dropped in everything except sports. Not that I had parents to care about that, but it was annoying. Besides Tracker, I had no other friends, not that I minded it just being us, everyone else were jerks. We’d kind of gotten a reputation for being bullies at school but that was only because we were the outcasts. The other kids were worse, but they had people backing them up. Tracker and I would skip classes and hang out anywhere but at school, except for when it was sports. We loved the running and competition. I did bare minimum in schoolwork. Ivy on the other hand was excelling at everything and blossoming, she was popular and had tonnes of friends, including her old friend Jesse who no longer harboured a crush on me. She didn’t glare at me anymore but instead now would just pretend I didn’t exist. At home though we were still best of friends and inseparable. She still studied around me, but I had stopped caring last year and slept whilst she worked hard. Today she was sat crossed leg in her room, concentrating particularly hard on a paper regarding Romeo and Juliet, a British love story. She kept getting annoyed at it and started muttering to me. I looked up from my spot at the side of her and put my head on her knee. She absentmindedly stroked my head, and I yet again felt those sparks and smelt baked croissants. Id only felt them a few times with Ivy. It was a feeling of slight electricity shooting through me. It felt good but also extremely strange. She clearly didn’t notice them. Mate sparks? I heard Onyx ask in my head. Mate what? I asked. I felt him frown. Ask Tracker when you see him. And I made a note to do so. Ivy’s 16th birthday came and went by quicky. I had grabbed her some wildflowers and she loved them, stroking my head yet again and I felt the sparks sometimes but not always. Trackers 19th also passed, and I got him a new jacket, a camo printed one that I knew he could use when riding his new boke. A present to himself for his birthday. Today was my 16th but obviously no one besides Tracker knew that. Tracker had mind linked me to say happy birthday and that he had a gift for me, but he would give it me Monday at school. I wandered downstairs and found Ivy preparing food. It smelt divine. When she heard my claws on the hardwood floor she looked over and smiled her huge smile that only I regularly saw. “Happy got you day!” she gushed, and I remembered that it was my birthday the day she found me at 7 on the riverside. I smiled inwardly and walked towards her, rubbing my head against her hand. I was huge now and her parents had talked about me living outside. Ivy would have none of it though and I was just more careful around the house. I was as tall as the kitchen sides and fairly wide. “I’m making you something nice!” she smiled and stroked my head before returning back to the oven. I could see she seemed to be wrapping some kind of meat in bacon and I started to drool. Licking my lips before I made a mess, I yipped excitedly at her. “Yep, that’s right, all your favourites, wrapped into one. Mum moaned it cost a fortune, but we had to celebrate your 16th birthday too!” she said. I heard her dad chuckle from the front room. “Ivy, we don’t know hes the same age as you…” He snorted. “Dad, we’ve had this conversation before. He absolutely is. When we found him, I asked him, and he barked when I said 7. I tried it numerous times and every time he barked at 7, that means he was the same age as me.” “Hes a wolf sweetie, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t understand what youre saying.” And I growled a little. Ivy laughed. “He absolutely does, point proven!” I knew whatever she was making would take a while, so I went to the door to be let out and her dad let me out. I went to lay in my usual spot in the backyard when I suddenly caught whiff of a scent I had never smelt before. It smelled like wet grass mixed with a hint of cinnamon. A strange smell but it caused Onyx to become agitated. The smell disappeared and I laid down, wondering what it could have been. It intrigued me. Later on, Ivy served me my meat package with a candle in the top and her parents laughed when she showed me how to blow out the candle. I huffed, blowing it out and everyone loved it. I rolled my eyes but deep down I loved that they celebrated my birthday. I hadn’t thought about my family in a long time because I loved my new family so much. “Yeah, but then they…” I heard someone whispering as I trudged past a group of girls on the way to running club. I heard a sharp intake of breath and rolled my eyes. People always judged me and Tracker for being the tallest and largest guys in school. No one approached us anymore and we were grateful that people left us alone. “That him?” I heard one of the girls ask. “Yeah, he knocked Jason out with the ball…” I again rolled my eyes and kept on walking. It wasn’t my fault; he had attempted to try and knock me into another player and kept tackling me viciously the entire game. I’d only kicked the ball at him a little hard, because he was annoying me. I didn’t know he was too weak to take it when it hit him in the chest. I kept walking when suddenly I saw Ivy. We hadn’t spoken in school for 3 years now but she was stood by my locker. I walked towards her. “Hey beautiful!” I said and she rolled her eyes. I placed my arm against my locker and leant into her, yet again smelling croissants. “Want to come get changed with me?” Onyx rolled his eyes at my attempt at flirting and so did Ivy. “No thanks. I’m here because Mrs White asked me to give you these notes.” I looked at her hands and saw maths work. Now it was my turn to roll my eyes. “Why bother, you know I’m not going to do them” she huffed. “That’s why she sent me. She wants me to…” she paused and bit her lip angrily. I new it was bad if she was holding words back. “tutor you!” my jaw fell open in surprise. “You’re kidding right?” I asked, grabbing my sports wear out of my locker. “Nope! She growled and I thought it was cute. She growled like a little she-wolf. “Well, I won’t be doing that…thanks!” I said, throwing my clothes over my shoulder and walking away. “Why?” She shouted. “Bad boy doesn’t want to do the work?” She shouted before stalking off. Bad boy? I said whilst Onyx laughed in my head. I stalked to running class a little annoyed. Bad boy? That was defiantly not the look I wanted to portray. I was fuming when I got to class, and Tracker instantly picked up on it. Whats wrong? He asked through mind link. Ivy thinks I’m a bad boy… I answered still steaming in anger. Tracker laughed out loud, and I rounded on him causing him to lift his hands in defeat. Sorry but that is hilarious. “No, it isn’t!” I growled out loud. “Bad boy sounds cutesy, like those boys you read about who have mummy issues and want attention. I don’t care about that; I just don’t want to be bullied.” Tracker again snorted. “I mean, we kind of do both have mummy issues.” And he laughed out loud. “Why do you even care what she thinks?” Mate sparks. Onyx said in my head. “Oh yeah!” I exclaimed. “What are mate sparks?” This seemed to make Tracker angry. “Stupid that’s what…” he growled. “Why?” “Well Onyx keeps talking about them and I don’t know what they are, but I feel like I should.”
