Chapter 32 – A normal day?
Jaspers POV
I found Ivy outside our math classroom, she was smiling as normal with some of her friends, cradling her math books. I smiled sadly at her, knowing she was holding in so many feelings right now. I caught her eye and she momentarily looked sad before waving at me.
“Can I talk to you?” I whispered in her ear as I approached her. I felt her shudder and I smiled. She nodded and took my hand, leading me further down the hall. I smiled wider, feeling the sparks, they definitely were stronger with Ivy. And even Onyx couldn’t deny it as he started a low grumbling sound in my head.
Why would the moon goddess mess up? Onyx questioned then went silent before I could answer. He seemed deep in thought, so I left him alone.
“What's up?” Ivy asked, looking at the floor, shyly.
“Ivy…” I groaned, wanting her to look at me. When she didn’t, I lifted her chin, so she was looking at me. Her eyes glistened with emotion. “Look, I’m sorry. Sera is… well she’s different. She’s grown up her entire life with knowledge of packs and hasn’t really been around humans.” She didn’t answer me but didn’t look away either. “She has plans of grandeur for me that I do not see for myself.”
“I know, but it’s obvious there’s a connection there. As soon as she entered the room you knew she was there. I could feel your heartbeat quicken. And she’s right, I’m just a little human, I don’t compare to her in any way.” She began to look at the round again and I stopped her.
“Do not ever say that!” I snarled a little more viciously than I meant to, but she didn’t look alarmed. “I love you. I always have. I have no intention of mating her and leaving to rule a pack I don’t know. I want to stay with you regardless. Yes, its amazing we have sparks and there’s clearly something happening between us but even if it wasn’t. I would give up being a werewolf all together to stay with you.” I saw tears sprout in her eyes.
“Really?” She whispered. I nodded and lifted her chin higher.
“I promise.” I said and kissed her gently on the lips. I knew she felt the tingles too and wanted more but I was aware we were within view of most of her friends and most of the class as the bell was about to ring. “I want to take you out after school tonight. We can stay in the city and bus it home after. If that’s ok?” She looked startled but smiled and agreed. The bell rang and we headed to class, hand in hand, her friends giggling behind us.
Ivy’s POV
That kiss had felt wonderful. Id spent most of the day thinking about it and was riding a cloud. So much so, that when Sera had entered my geography class and spent most of it glaring at me or trying to get my attention I didn’t even care. Jasper had told me she was a year older than us so I could only assume she had lied to get into the school to stalk Jasper. I spent most of the lesson rolling my eyes and ignoring her. When the bell rang, I packed my stuff and waited for a few of my friends.
“Whats her problem?” Laura, a girl I had met only last year asked me.
“She likes Jasper.” I answered, thinking of the easiest explanation I could give for her attitude.
“I don’t like him. I love him, we’re meant to be together.” Sera answered from across the room. Laura looked between her and me, wondering how she had heard me. I didn’t answer her and slung my bag over my shoulder. As I walked out of the room, Laura and Emily followed behind me but kept quiet. I knew Sera was following us, but school had ended. I was walking to meet Jasper. Sera was quickly in front of us causing my friends to make a little scream. I glared at her.
“Look, Ivy can we please talk?” I looked at my friends who had backed off and I turned to Sera to whisper through gritted teeth.
“I thought I was just a little girl. What could you want to say to me?” She looked shocked at me for a second before sighing.
“Look, I’m sorry, I’m not used to being around people. And you are pretty tiny. I think we need to talk.” I rolled my eyes, said goodbye to Laura and Emily and followed behind Sera to leave the building.
“What?” I asked, arms crossed as we found a quiet place to talk but not far from where I was meeting Jasper.
“I assume you know everything. Who I am? What I am to Jasper?” She asked, looking over me for some emotion. I panicked, should I tell her I knew? Jasper had said I shouldn’t as wolves reacted as bad as humans could.
“I know you think you have some claim over him. That because you were friends when you were younger that he will come running back to you.” Her eyes narrowed when she realised, I wasn’t giving anything away. She might think I know, but she wasn’t sure.
“Ok, well he is mine, were meant to be together, you might not understand.” I nodded; arms still folded. “It will happen no matter what.” I looked at her, trying to keep my face impassive. I trusted Jasper.
“Ok…” I said.
“So, it would be best if you just butted out now. Gave him his space and encouraged him to meet his parents soon.” She said, also crossing her arms now. I glared at her and was about to retaliate when Jasper turned up at the side of me.
“Back off Sera. This isn’t the way and never will be.” He grabbed me around the waist, and I felt pleasurable tingles flow through my body. Sera didn’t say anything, but I thought I saw her become temporarily sad before glaring at me again as Jasper dragged me away to the city.
Jaspers POV
I was absolutely livid. Tracker had always gone on about his old pack being awful, but I didn’t have any bad memories of my pack. I also knew the mate bond made your mates crazy and possessive, but it wasn’t on for her to threaten Ivy. I knew I was marching quite fast, but Ivy was keeping up with me. Suddenly, she started giggling and I stopped to look at her.
“What?” I asked, looking her up and down.
“You’re so…mad…” She wheezed between outbursts.
“Wouldn’t you be?” I asked, looking at her with concern.
“Oh… absolutely, but… now I know you like me… and I was… being stupid.” I looked at her and smiled gently. I pulled her in for a cuddle and she stopped laughing, sighing into my chest happily.
“I’m sorry Ivy. I promise I like you; I love you. I’m not going anywhere, and neither should you.” She pulled away from my chest.
“Oh, don’t worry, I can take her…” She said fiercely and it was my turn to laugh. I grabbed her hand and smiled again at the tingles.
“Come on, lets go. I have a whole evening planned for us.
I took Ivy, first to a restaurant that Tracker had advised me to visit in the past. It was a steak place, and I knew she would appreciate it as much as I did. We sat and laughed at various things whilst we ate our medium rare steaks together. Ivy, despite being tiny, had a ravenous appetite and loved steak as much as I did. When we had finished there was a little cocktail bar, I knew Ivy would love. It was in an underground tunnel that had been renovated. It was decorated with fairy lights and climbing vines all around. Most of the booths were decorated with various flowers and even more coloured lights. I saw her face glow with excitement as we entered. We ordered a drink each and sat down. She chose to have a non-alcoholic one as it was a school night.
“Wait, so human alcohol doesn’t affect you?” She asked as I explained it didn’t matter to me. “So, my plan of getting you tipsy at my birthday would have absolutely failed?” She asked, playful anger on her face. I chuckled.
“Absolutely.” I snorted and she bumped into me with her shoulder playfully.
“That sucks, I think it would have been funny to see a drunk wolf.”
“Oh, we absolutely can get drunk, but it takes much stronger stuff. Tracker told me that most wolves brew their own alcohol.” She listened with pure fascination.
“Will you tell me more about werewolves?” She asked, leaning her head against my shoulder. I reached to put my arm around her shoulders, pulling her against me and told her as much as I could about a pack. Most of it I had either read about or learned from Tracker, but I told her everything regardless.
Eventually, I realised it was getting late and the sun was starting to go down. It was late spring, so the sun didn’t set until after 8pm but we both had school tomorrow. Ivy was smiling and dancing around as we waited for the bus to arrive when I realised there was another way we could get home.
“I have an idea, follow me.” She didn’t question me and followed me to the outskirts of the city. It was only about a 30-minute drive to our house, but it would be much quicker through the countryside and woodland that surrounded the town. Wait here I said as I went behind a tree to change. I stuffed my clothes in my backpack and transformed into my usual wolf self. I grabbed my backpack in my teeth and dropped it at Ivys feet. She picked it up and looked at me quizzically. I laid down on my stomach and made a gesture with my head for her to get on.
“Are you kidding?” She asked, both fear and anticipation clear in her voice. I nodded and gestured again. She threw my backpack over her shoulder to join hers and slowly got onto my back. “Where do I hold on?” She asked, knowing I could answer so I shook my head, hoping she would know to grab around my neck. She did and giggled cuddling into my fur. I howled and ran towards our house. When we arrived at the other end of the woodland, I laid back down for her to get off. I knew she was feeling a tonne of emotions, so I grabbed my backpack and left her stood there, catching her breath, her face red.
“That was amazing!” She breathed as I returned, fully dressed to her. I smiled and took her hand, walking her towards her house.
“I’m glad you enjoyed it.” I smiled, turning her to face me when we reached her back gate. She looked into my eyes, and I could see her flushed face and tears glittering her eyelashes, probably from the wind in them. I smiled and leant down towards her. She didn’t hesitate and our lips came together in a beautiful dance. Neither of us fighting for domination but both of us making moves. The tingle of the mate bond crackled between our lips, and I could feel my own pulse quickening as we deepened our kiss. She had put her hands around my waist and was reaching up my back. One of my hands was under her chin whilst my other was also on her back. I pulled away after what seemed like an eternity, and we were both breathing heavily.
“Goodnight Ivy.” I smiled as I kissed her forehead. She chuckled and said goodnight. I ran into the woods, put my backpack and clothes in the usual hollow log and then joined her as a wolf. She smiled, stroked my head then we headed in together.
