Chapter 15 – Leave her alone!
Jaspers POV
There was a part of me, annoyed that Ivy was allowed to break the rules that she had specifically set, but I wasn’t, but then another part of me was extremely happy that she was talking to me. That she was acknowledging my existence, normally, as a human.
I knew she was feeling awkward. I could sense her heartbeat and her feelings a little. When she gagged, I honestly thought she was about to throw up. I wanted her to get a drink, so I accompanied her, almost forcing her to do it for her own good. Automatically, I touched her hand with mine, as I would do when I was my wolf and we walked together. After the first time, I knew she was surprised, and I thought I should stop but then I felt a tingle in my finger. The mate bond? I smiled and continued to do as I would normally. She didn’t move away or stop me. I didn’t feel the tingle every time though and this made me frown.
But you felt it a little. Onyx said, smiling.
And? I asked him.
You aren’t 18 yet, you shouldn’t even be feeling the sparks yet, so the fact you do feel them is a positive sign.
With this information I couldn’t help but keep smiling. I knew it. We were mates, we completed each other. Now all I needed to do was keep showing her who I was, get her to realise it was me and tell her everything. I knew she would accept it, she was amazing. When she called my name, I couldn’t help but turn to her with a giant smile on my face. She looked confused, and I saw how she looked at me, she was studying my face. Had she realised something? I was buzzing with anticipation. But no, she answered "never mind" and I huffed. Not upset, nothing could stop this mood right now.
We sat through our history test and most of us finished early, so Mr Night said he would actually mark the tests during the lesson and that we could sit and read. I didn’t want to, so I leaned back in my chair and shut my eyes. I was thinking about the tie when Ivy would finally accept me, and I could be close to her as a human as well as in my wolf phase. I was also imagining our lips touching, kissing and touching her properly, not just grazing her skin. We were both nearly 17 now and not far from being 18. We had learned about s*x when we were younger and finally understood that Ivy was the one I wanted to do that with her. I had finally understood that feeling when Jesse liked me and I didn’t want her to, that feeling when Ivy spoke about boys, and I felt jealous. I absolutely loved this girl and was definitely attracted to her.
Maybe we can show her we like her? Onyx said from the back of my mind.
I was about to answer when Mr Night put my test back on my desk. 92% Not bad. I knew Ivy was sitting behind me somewhere, and I turned to see if she had her score back. She did, but she wasn’t looking at me as usual. I sighed, she had broken the rules today. Surely, she wouldn’t mind if I did. I turned around and tried to get her attention by slightly shaking my test paper at her. I saw her going red and knew she had seen me waving it. She looked up slightly, still red, a little annoyed, but not nearly as much as usual.
“Oh look!” I heard a drole voice from behind Ivy. “Mr smarty-pants wants to show off his test score.” He whispered, snarky. Everyone chuckled around him, and I turned around, getting mad. “That’s right, go back to being that sulky boy we all know.” I gritted my teeth and ignored him. I wasn’t about to do anything in class, but if he carried on, I’d get him back in the hall. Thankfully, he didn’t carry on and mine and Onyx’s temper subsided.
The lesson ended, and the teacher asked me to stay back, so I did. He told me he was impressed by how much I had improved, and he hoped I would continue to do so throughout the rest of the year and during my last year. I nodded, not feeling comfortable with the attention. He then started to ask about the football game, and we had a good conversation about it. He said he would be there and hoped we would win. I smiled and waved goodbye and headed to my last period of the day. Maths.
When I got there, I noticed Ivy first as usual. She was surrounded by a few girls, and they all looked angry. I noticed the guy from earlier, Simon, who was saying things to Ivy and the girls.
“Why, do you like him?” He said, sarcasm in his voice.
“Shut up Simon!” Ivy said through gritted teeth. I wasn’t sure what was happening, so I walked up to the classroom and just stood on the sidelines, not wanting to get involved but within ear shot in case Ivy needed me.
“Oh, here he is now…” Wait, what? “Mr perfect!” I rolled my eyes. What was his problem?
“Stop it, Simon,” Jesse said, but quietly.
“Yeah, you're only jealous.” Another girl who I believe was called Bea said.
“HA!” Simon laughed aloud, getting closer to Ivy. “Why would I need to be jealous?” I’m hotter than him and my father owns most of the restaurants in the city. I’m rich and don’t need grades.” He said, bragging that he had money and didn’t need to study. I rolled my eyes and ignored him. He always acted like that, and Bea was right, he was jealous. He wasn’t athletic, wasn’t particularly smart and whilst money sure attracted some people, they weren’t always the right people you wanted around.
I snuck a glance at Ivy and noticed she was angrier than I’d ever seen her. That confused me and Onyx. She was glaring at Simon, but not the usual glare she shot me. This was pure hatred. At least with me it was more about annoyance, and I was glad about that.
“Are you girls, OK?” I asked, more concerned for Ivy than anyone. She looked at me and nodded her head but didn’t say anything. I nodded back and stepped back to lean against the wall.
“Getting him to protect you now?” Simon said, his voice dripping with malice. “I thought you hated him.” With that, I felt a twinge in my heart and looked at Ivy. She looked worried now but still angry. “I thought he was annoying and too big for his boots.” That didn’t surprise me, but it hurt. “And you said you’d go to the prom with me.” He snarled.
“That was before I found out you were a bigger jerk than I realised.” Ivy snapped out, causing me to smirk, but she seemed to bite her lip, realising she had said too much. Suddenly, Simon had her arm and was raising his other hand to her.
I hadn’t realised, but I let Onyx come forwards, and I ran to Ivy as fast as my legs would let me. I knew it was faster than usual. I grabbed Simon's arms, and squeezed the one that was holding Ivy and stopped the one that looked like it was going to slap her.
“Leave. Her. ALONE!” Onyx and I growled in unison, the last word coming out as a full-on roar. I saw Simon's eyes turn to fear, and I was happy. He pulled his hands away from me and held them up in surrender.
“OK man, Jesus!” He backed away, and I turned to Ivy, not interested in him anymore. I just wanted to make sure she was OK. Onyx was worried too. I turned to Ivy, and she looked worried. It was then that I realised Onyx was on the surface still too, so my eyes would be my wolf’s colour, not my usual honey brown. I told him to back down, and he did it once he realised she was scared. I saw her shake her head, and then she looked at me again.
“I’m fine.” She squeaked, but I could not sense fear coming from her.
“He didn’t hurt you?” She shook her head no. I nodded, happy, from the fact she was OK but also that she was acknowledging me in front of everyone. Her friends were all looking between me and her. Our math teacher, Mrs White, called us in for lesson and I turned to make sure Simon had entered before I let the girls. Once he had, I put out my arm, gesturing to the girls to go ahead and heard a lot of them giggle, but Ivy kept staring at me. “Are you ok?” I asked her. She seemed to break out of a trance-like state.
“Yeah.” She mumbled and headed into class, but not without glancing back at me first.
