Chapter 16 – Budding feelings? Ivys POV I was sat in maths; the last class of the day and I couldn’t wait to get home. What on earth had just happened? My heart was pounding out of my chest. Jasper had seemed in every aspect just like my pet wolf. He kept touching me, letting me know he was there. The usual huffs were there and that protective outburst… that was something I’d heard about Jasper doing but never witnessed. Simon had never treated me like that, and I knew it was down to plain jealousy over the fact that he had seen Jasper trying to get my attention in class. Simon had made it clear in the past that he liked me. In the first year it had been sweet, and I enjoyed his undivided attention on me, and I agreed to be his date to prom, assuming he still liked me then. However, as I got to know him, I found out how much of a slime ball he actually was. Id started distancing myself from him, but he was always there with the others in my friendship group. “Are you ok?” Jesse asked quietly from next to me. I looked at her with a quick glance before looking back to the front of class, hoping Mrs White hadn’t noticed us chatting. “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?” I hissed. Jesse let out a snort but didn’t say anything else. I looked at her with a frown before carrying on with my work. What was that supposed to mean? Of course, I was ok, after all, jasper had stopped Simon from being a total douche in front of everyone and slapping me. What they all didn’t know was that I would just have hit him right back. I didn’t stand for that, and Jesse should have known that. She’d seen me stick up for not only her, but my friends and myself throughout our childhood. My heart was finally starting to settle, and I took a deep breath, causing Jesse to look at me again. “What?” I hissed again. She shook her head and signalled to her watch. We would talk after school. As class finished, I was packing my things away and I saw Jasper get up from his seat near the front of the class. He had always sat at the back but since starting tutoring with me he had moved to the front of most classes. Earlier I had noticed how his black t-shirt had seemed ironed, however, what I noticed now was how the t-shirt was perfectly fitted to him. Tight enough to see the outline of his body but not too tight to show every ripple. He shrugged his leather jacket on and as he grabbed his bag, he turned to look at me. I just kept staring at him, frozen in place. His eyes held mine for the longest time. His face was unreadable. Time seemed to stand still and there were numerous thoughts running through my head. You like him. My inner voice said. That’s snapped me out of my trance, and I saw Jasper walk away. Jesse nudged me, she must have seen everything. I sighed and finished packing up and walked out of the classroom. I turned to make sure Jesse was following me and I bumped into someone in front of me. “NO” I heard someone growl but although it sounded like Jasper it was also very throaty. I looked up to see what I had bumped into and realised it was Jaspers back. It was hard and part of me wanted to hug into the back of it. I took a step back at that thought and bit my lip. “I just want to apologise.” This voice I also recognised. Simon. “She doesn’t need or want it.” Jaspers raspy voice answered. He seemed angry and I moved to Jaspers side. I placed a hand on his arm and looked at him. He turned any yet again our eyes met. His honey brown eyes seemed sad as he looked at me but then he smiled. “Hes right Simon.” I said, looking directly at Simon now with a scowl. “I don’t want your apology. Youre a slime ball and I want nothing more to do with you.” I turned and signalled to Jesse to follow me, and we walked off towards our school bus. As we walked, I did notice that Jasper was walking behind us, far enough away to not look like he belonged with us but close enough to help if Simon tried anything. Jesse ushered me to a seat that was further away from our normal seat but far enough away from the back so that Jasper couldn’t hear us from his usual back seat. “What is going off girl!” She gushed at me, and if we were anime character, I knew there would be hearts in her eyes. I smiled and chuckled. “What do you mean?” I asked. “You know Simons always been a douche.” “You know exactly what I mean.” She crossed her arms in faux anger. “Jasper…” She breathed and I wondered if she still liked him deep down, her childhood crush coming back to the surface after seeing him jump in to protect us today. “Nothing. You know Ive been tutoring him…” Jesse nodded. “Well today he got his history score back and even though we never speak at school he must have been so happy he tried to show me. Simon just got jealous that’s all.” “You know I didn’t mean that; I mean Jasper jumping in to protect you and then you acting star struck.” “Wait what?” I looked at her confused. “Oh yeah” She said, leaning back into her chair, her arms behind her head. “All google eyed and wide mouthed!” “I…didn’t…” My mouth was wide now as I looked at her in shock. But she just giggled and shook her head. “It all makes sense now Ives, You always glaring at him, picking on him, then completely ignoring him. You like him…” I closed my mouth, and it was Jesse’s turn to receive one of my glares. She knew why I did all of those things. She just chuckled. “Deny it all you want but its clear for anyone to see.” I crossed my arms and refused to talk to her the rest of the journey. However, I did notice Jasper, smiling to himself but looking out of the window. Had he heard us? “I don’t want to study tonight!” I said to him as the bus stopped and ran off the bus before he could reply to me.
