Chapter 30 – The Truth, part 2
Jasper’s POV
I explained everything Karma had told me so far, about the multiple mates and the moon goddess talking to her. I was still waiting for further information from them and figured I probably should go visit Tracker and Karma soon. When I had finished, she was looking deep in thought, and something happened that I had never seen before. Her eyes turned a shade of silver and then immediately back to her normal chocolate colour. What the hell was that?
“Who is Selene?”
“That’s the moon goddess, how did you know?” She shrugged.
“I must have heard it somewhere before. What about Merena?” I looked at her in confusion. It was my turn to shrug this time.
“I have no idea. Maybe we need to go and talk to Karma?” She nodded her head.
“OK, so now it might be time for me to tell you some truths.” I looked at her in confusion. “Ive always known you were special. I mean you literally understood me from day one. When I knew you weren’t a normal wolf I started researching and the only thing I could find was normal wolf stuff, but no one had ever encountered one as smart as you. I knew I couldn’t seek help because people might want to take you away from me. Then when you came to school at 11, I think there were a few reasons I didn’t like you. You were smart, which I now know is entirely because of me now, so, you’re welcome.” She said and I chuckled. “Well, I was jealous that you were also close to Tracker and that Jesse liked you. I think I was also a little bit smitten with you. You reminded me of your wolf form so much, but I didn’t want to think that. As I got older, I realised I needed to look into weird things to explain you and that’s when I found out about werewolves. Yes, they are mostly stories but there’s a lot of folk lore too and most folk lore comes from some truth. So, I started my plan to expose you, I think part of it was because I didn’t want to lose you. Jesse was right that I wanted to replace wolf you, because if you were just a wolf then I would lose you soon and if you were a werewolf, I knew I would lose you to your mate or your pack when you found them….” She sighed, trailing off.
I was looking at her with absolute adoration, she was right and I knew most of this already but to hear her say it out loud to me was amazing. As she spoke, she placed a hand on the table and I grabbed it, yet again feeling the sparks. She stopped and looked at our hand.
“Is that tingling the mate bond?” I nodded, smiling like a cheshire cat.
“You can feel it?” She nodded.
“Ive always felt something similar with you but when you were a wolf. But there’s other things, like I can feel your heart beating even when you aren’t touching me. I feel like I can read your emotions when were close and also, I get extremely hot around you.”
“That is the mate bond. Although most humans can never feel it so I am surprised you can.”
“Maybe I am special.” She laughed. “So, what happens next?” She asked, not removing her hand from mine.
“We speak to Karma and Tracker, we figure this out, because I do not want to leave you Ivy. I… I love you.” She smiled widely.
“I love you too, Jasper.”
Ivy’s POV
When he told me everything, I felt amazing, I knew I had been right, nothing added up with Jasper being a normal wolf. I knew my research was right and as Arthur Conan Doyle always said, when everything else is eliminated, whatever is left, even if it seems unreal, it must be the truth.
We talked some more about the mate bond, and general werewolf stuff. We spoke about how I was going to give Tracker a hard punch when I saw him and lastly, we spoke about the future.
“Wait, where am I sleeping tonight?” Jasper asked and I nearly chocked on my fresh drink that Sophie had brought us.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, now you know, I can’t keep sleeping in your bedroom.”
“Jasper…” I sighed. “I’m all for you being noble but you haven’t for 11 years, don’t start now. You live the same until we can figure out a plan moving forwards.” He looked at me in disbelief. “What?”
“Youre happy for me to keep being a wolf around the house?” I nodded and looked at him in confusion.
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Well, you know I’m human now.” He said, his brows touching in confusion too.
“You were human before, nothing has changed. Just so long as you don’t transform back into a human in the house and my parents see you then I think were ok. Nothing has really changed you know. I always knew deep down, and you were always a gentleman. You never followed me to the bathroom when you easily could have as a dog.” I laughed thinking of all the times he could have absolutely been a p*****t but didn’t. He chuckled.
“As long as youre ok with that then so am I. Ill try to give Tracker a call and see if they’re free to talk.” I nodded and watched him go outside. I could see that underneath the calm exterior he was showing there was a lot of excitement but also some worry. I wanted to change that.
Maybe there’s a way for you to help him reject his true mate? The voice in my head said. I thought hard. Tonight, I would absolutely be researching a heck of a lot more. After a few minutes Tracker came back in looking extremely confused.
“Ok, long story but basically, Merena is another goddess.” I raised my eyebrow.
The moon goddess’s sister, actually. My subconscious told me. So, I just nodded at Jasper.
“Well, Tracker and Karma and… Chase” I raised my eyebrows in shock. “Yep, I was the same. They have all been sent to somewhere up in the mountains. Theres a lot more to the story which Tracker said he couldn’t fill me in on, mostly because he was driving, and Karma was asleep.” Jasper rolled his eyes. “Anyways, they’ve left us directions at the cabin and Tracker has said we can take his bike because he has a car. He says there is more going on and that we will learn more at the mountain village. There are supposedly others like us there.” I mulled it over.
“So, do we have to get your fated mate to come with us?” I asked with disgust. He laughed and shook his head.
“No, I have no intention of accepting her as my mate, I want you.” I knew I was blushing and heating up again, but I nodded shyly at him.
“You told him we couldn’t go until after school finishes, right?” I heard him sigh.
“I didn’t, he knew you wouldn’t and said he understood but that we should get there asap.” I nodded, happy that Tracker still knew me well.
“Ok, so, I assume you have no money…” He looked at me confused.
“I do, why?” I was surprised but didn’t ask him anything just yet.
“We will come back to that. Ok, so we save as much as possible, finish school and get good grades. You’ll introduce your human self to my parents and well tell them were dating.”
“We are, aren’t we?”
“Oh… well… I didn’t want to presume.” I smiled but carried on. “then well tell them were going to travel for a year before university. WE have 4 months to get them to love you and they already technically do so…” I giggled. Jasper was smiling at me but didn’t say anything. “What?”
“You’ve always wanted to travel, and you’ll be doing it with me, the real me.” He smiled and took my hand again. “I’m just happy.”
“Me too, now come on, we have planning to do… Wait, what happens to your clothes when you change back into a wolf.”
“They get shredded. I used to take my clothes off in the woods before coming home as a wolf.” Okay, that was new information.
“Ok, well you better transform before we get home. Come on.” I said, draining my cup and dragging him by his hand out of Franks. I knew he was rolling his eyes at me, but I dragged him home regardless.
