SONG FOR THIS CHAPTER:
YOU BROKE ME FIRST-TATE MCRAE
CHAPTER FOURTY-SIX
RONAN
I got eyes for Ellora today as she was in the shopping mall to go shop the dress, she will be wearing for the prom night this week.
I could have been the one to watch over her to guarantee her safety, but Dad called me telling me that we need to talk about the Butler’s. off course, I should have known that Dad will eventually find out what the Butler’s plan towards us. Even if I keep that secret to myself, Dad is veteran when it comes to this system.
"How much do you trust your friend James and his family?" Dad starts. Walking on his office.
“Not much.” I shrug.
"It better stays that way." He smokes his cigarette as he sat down on his chair in front of me.
I looked at him “What do you mean?” I act innocently as he drops the cryptic words.
“The Butler’s is not our friend. They are our enemies in disguise that the organization released to bring us down.”
I nod “How do you know?”
"You tell me, Son." He tilted his head at me. "How do you know?" Off f*****g course, he already knew I knew something about the Butler’s, and he couldn’t believe I hadn’t investigated myself.
I sighed “Did my own research.” I lit a cigarette.
“Why didn’t you tell me first hand?”
“I know you know about our golden rule in our society, Dad. You teach me that yourself.”
He took a deep breath and scratch his forehead “But I am your fath—”
“Never trust anyone.” I told him before he even finished what he’s going to say.
He looks at me in my eyes, as I did to him.
He nods “Okay, but I want you to know that you can trust me. Always.”
I nod “I know, Dad.”
“If there’s anyone you shouldn’t trust, it is the people outside this house, not me.”
I connect my gaze to his “I know. Is that anything?”
It’s not that I don’t trust my father, it’s just that I want to be the one to finished off every single Butler’s in this world without interruption.
He nods “You may go.”
I stood up and ready to leave when he calls me again. “Son?”
I turn around to faced him “Yes?”
“I love you. And that will never change.”
I just nod instead of answering him. Once upon a time I have loved Dad with all my heart that I am willing to give everything just to make him proud.
But that time has long gone the night I went missing. That I start to blame him and his lifestyle on what happened to me.
I still love him. But that is not enough to make me forgive him for those nights I am alone, in pain and starving inside that dark wooden shed.
I start to wonder that what if Dad took a different path to take instead of being a ruthless politician that everyone fears and mad at? Maybe I am just as normal as anybody else.
I left his office and ready to take some rest, I feel exhausted and tired for the past days.
Camilla is in the hallway holding a tray of snacks, she bows at my direction and I did the same.
“Ronan can we talk?”
I chuckle "You know where the conversation you want can go."
She sighed “This is important.”
“Some other time, Camilla.” I shrug her off and starts to walk away.
As soon as I get inside my room, I opened my window to see Ellora is already home with the dress she picks in her hands. She’s looking at it in trance of magic and looking forward as to what may happen in the prom night.
If only she knew what was about to unfold in that night.
If only she knew that there’s a f*****g monster ready to attack that night.
As I am watching her, I still contemplating whether to make her see the ugliness and madness of this world and offer the black hearts she thought was red.
Or let her believe that this world is just full of flowers and rains.
Without ugliness, without evil.
I have a long night to decide.
