SONG FOR THIS CHAPTER:
GRAY-WHY DON’T WE
CHAPTER FOUR
RONAN
I go down to the dining area, our housekeepers roaming around the house, busy doing their own little things. I heard Mom and I went straight to her at the dining table, she stood up and instructed the housekeepers what to do.
She immediately saw me and smiled at me “Good morning, sweetheart.” She pecked a kiss on my cheeks and let me sat down on the table to eat.
"What's up, Mom? Why do you all seem so busy today? And where's Dad?" I pressed as I eat.
“We are.” She sighed. “This is our first annual thanksgiving here in Nashville, so everything should be perfect.” She caressed my hair while smiling “And your Dad is in the town hall this early, he is needed there.”
I nod “Okay. Can I invite, James, Cloud and Ellora?”
“Son, I don’t think Reverend Sullivan will let her, you know how he feels about your Dad.” She said sadly.
I nod sadly too “But I am not Dad, Mom. In fact, Ellora wants to be my friend too.”
She sighed and level herself to me “Okay, I’ll try to talk to him? Does that sound good?”
I nod while smiling brightly “Yes, Mom. Thank you.”
"Anita, can you pick up the suit I told Ronan to wear to the atelier?" Mom called Anita, of all the housekeepers we trusted the most was Anita. She's in her mid-40's and she's Mexican native, she's doing this for her children who are left in Mexico. She was with us in California and she almost raised me.
Anita walks towards Mom “Yes, madam.” She smiled warmly at Mom and me “Are you excited today señorito Ronan?”
I nod “I am Anita.” I smiled at her.
“I better get going, madam.” She said to Mom.
“Okay, be safe. And tell Ramon to drive you there.”
“Thank you, Madam.”
Like Anita, Ramon is Mom and I’s trustworthy bodyguard and driver. He’s with us too since we’re in California. Roman is originally from Texas and met Dad many years ago when he saved Dad from an unknown bullet. Since then, Dad gave him job to be the one who protect us, he always says Ramon is the best of all, but he gave him to us because he said only the best for Mom and me.
At first, I didn't know how scary and dangerous Dad's enemies were. But as I grew up, I understood that life is at stake when it comes to this field. I should be scared, because after Dad he will give me the crown. But I am not, because they made me aware of our family's roots. I should be ready and I should make them all see that I am born a Hawthorne and I am born to continue the legacy.
That afternoon, Mom and I went to the town's church along with the townspeople. One of the things I noticed in town was their high faith in god. So it's an important thing for the townspeople to see that our family is the same, even though Reverend Sullivan calls Dad in his sermons every week and under Dad's leadership, we have no choice but to go to church every Sunday, front to the people of the town.
We always have this usual sit every Sunday. Our family is sitting in front and James’ family is in front too on the left side. James’ Dad is very well known as the most successful businessman here in Pennsylvania. His Dad and my Dad get along pretty well.
I turn to see Ellora, sitting on the side with her choir mates. Yes, she a ballerina from what I heard, although I still didn’t see her ballet. She’s in the church choir too. And every Sunday we graced us with her serene voice.
I saw her looking at James again dreamily. And her face makes me chuckle.
“Why?” Mom asked beside me.
I shake my head “Nothing, Mom.” I try to contain my chuckle as I looked at Ellora again, and Mom follow my gazed. She smiled at me sadly as she saw Ellora.
The ceremony begins once again. The revered starts his sermon, from time to time the choir is singing praises.
"At this time of Thanksgiving, isn't it better that we don't be afraid of our own home? All we have to fear is god. We shouldn't be afraid of a human form." He starts and looks at Dad, but Dad just nods and kept his cool. Dad could keep up with Reverend Sullivan. But I can’t help but get annoyed when he says things like that in front of the townspeople. I know that some of them are afraid of Dad's leadership, because Dad's law is an iron hand when it comes to him.
I stood up “Just going in the comfort room, Mom.” I told Mom as I stride outside the church, I looked at Ellora and she looks at me from the stage with a worried look. I just smiled at her warmly to say that it’s fine.
