ONE DAY AGO
*Danes POV*
Meeting Emmaline, my beautiful fated mate, definitely distracted me from the s**t show that was the meeting with the leaders of the Bloodvane pack. Their Alpha was young and cocky and didn’t show much respect to my companions, especially my sister. As soon as he walked into our room with his beta and flanking gammas, I knew he was trouble. Unfortunately for him not only did I best him in size but I also had years of experience under my belt. I’ve dealt with numerous egotistical alpha’s, many larger than the one in front of me.
I’d guess Alpha Hawk was about 6’4” noticing the top of his head was about chin height to me. He was pretty well built and clearly superior to his companions. His beta was comparable in size but seemed to be a few years older. You could tell he took this seriously unlike his arrogant Alpha. The two Omegas with them were clearly all brawn and no brain.
Hawk continued eyeing Daphne as my Beta Emmitt reviewed the circumstances.
“The King has requested a meeting with you this evening to discuss your packs transgressions in the past few months you have been Alpha.”
With eyes originally locked on my sisters chest, he darts his eyes to meet my gaze with a slight smirk on his face. He’s lucky I don’t tear him to shreds just for being disrespectful. But that’s not me, I remind myself, I’m better than he was.
I have a quick flash of a memory of my father disemboweling a clans alpha in front of everyone after disrespecting him. It was the most gruesome sight I had ever seen.
“Your highness, I’m sure there has been a misunderstanding,” Hawks Beta chimes in when no response comes from him.
“We have been notified of at least 20 human deaths in your territory over a 6 month span, all werewolf caused, can you explain?” I question Hawk, watching the smirk drift off his face as he tries to find his words.
“Your highness, I was unaware that these deaths have been deemed ‘werewolf’ related. All the media outlets have been tracking a rise in wild animal attacks,” he smirks again.
“These stupid humans just don’t know how to stay out of the woods. I hardly see that as our fault.”
Cocky little s**t.
“Being able to manipulate the media does not excuse the facts,” the anger was starting to build in my chest.
“We have multiple eye witness accounts as well as confirmation from scouts I placed in your territory after your coronation.”
I can see the building fury in his eyes as the knowledge of me having spies under his nose sinks in.
“Your highness I’m not sure what you have been told but I can assure you I have my pack under control.” He retorts through gritted teeth.
“You better. If I hear of even one more human death at the hands of someone in your pack, I will strip you of your title and have you replaced with someone more suitable.”
Hawk slams his palms onto the glass and stand from his seat. I could tell my threat pissed him off. It was very clear this Alpha had little self control, a terrible quality in leader.
His Beta quickly jumped up next to him in an effort to ease the tension.
“King Dane, I will personally see to it that we reign in some of the more disobedient pack members. You won’t have a problem again.”
Emmitt replies for me.
“Thank you Blaine, you all are welcome to a drink before your departure.”
He was always accommodating, even for assholes. I reclined back in the dining chair as Daphne’s favorite gamma Heidi poured shots for everyone at the table. I never particularly cared for her but Daphne insisted on bringing a ‘friend’ on this trip to entertain her. Heidi was a tall skinny blonde who always has her eyes all over me. She is not my type by any stretch of the imagination but I think my sister had hopes I may choose her buddy as a mate since mine seemed to be non-existent.
The men of Bloodvane took their shots and immediately excused themselves to their room a few floors down. I was glad to be rid of them.
Daphne excitedly pulled me onto the kitchen to question me about the girl with two different eyes. My heart felt so full describing the feeling I felt as soon as I saw her. Daph’s eyes lit up when she realized I had found my mate. It was the one thing she prayed to the Moon Goddess for every night. My little sister’s number one priority always seemed to be making me happy and I couldn’t help but love her for it. Ever since she was born she has been such a light in my life. I can’t fathom how I went almost a decade on my own without that little joy.
She suggested I send Emmaline a small gift to show my affection. It was about 2am at this point and I knew the shops wouldn’t be open until much later in the morning. About 20 minutes after leaving me in the kitchen Daphne runs in holding a small white box.
“Dane this is it! You have to give her mothers necklace it’s perfect!”
She opened the box revealing a dainty necklace with a green emerald that reminded me of Emmaline’s striking eye. My mother used to wear that necklace on special occasions, I remember her telling us it was a gift from her true love. I always thought she said it that way to let us know it definitely wasn’t from our father.
While our dad was the father of her children, he was her second chance mate. She didn’t tell us much about her first mate but the love and pain that shown in her eyes when she put that necklace on told us enough.
“Are you sure you don’t want to keep it Daph? I know how special it is,”
“No! Dane it’s so perfect! It went from one true love to another and now you can continue the tradition.” She smiled so big it was impossible to say no.
“Your right sis, any chance you’d wrap it up nice so I can send Emmett to deliver it to her? I have to go get recon back from the Bloodvane scouts and update them on the current situation.”
“I’m on it bubs!” She had been calling me that ever since her little mouth could form words. While not appropriate in a formal setting, I didn’t mind her doing it while no one was around.
