Kalum awoke with a start. Blemm was shaking him and talking in his ear. “Wake up, Kalum. We have to go.”
“What’s going on?” Kalum asked, suddenly alert.
“Hack’s got himself in a mess. We have to go get him.”
“Hack?”
Blemm leaned against the bureau and pulled on his boots. “Just got a message. Goblins have him and Katriana trapped in the thirteenth floor vault.”
Kalum knew immediately what had happened. Hack had tried to rob the vault. He wasn’t surprised; it was in the little man’s nature. He’d told Hack repeatedly not to do it while they focused on Mariah, but he hadn’t really expected Hack’s patience to last. It didn’t matter. All that mattered now was to get him out of there alive.
