More Trouble?

I walked to where the lockers were placed and I successfully found mine. I unlocked it and put my things inside them. At least, to prevent myself from being blasted by another teacher. Then I brought out the school map to navigate my way to the next class. "Hi!" A tiny female voice said to me. I looked up from my map and saw her. She was a tiny Asian girl with hair so dark and long it looked like the color was dark blue. Her eyes were tiny and she looked heavenly. Was everyone in this school naturally so beautiful? She had a long sleeve top and jeans on. She was probably a few inches smaller than I and I was small. "Hi." She smiled at me and extended her hand. "I'm Himari. I saw you in Algebra. You are new here right? I have never seen you in school before." I shook her hand. "Yeah I am. I'm Denver." "Nice to meet you." She said sweetly. I looked at her flawless white skin and envied it. "I'm sorry about what happened at Algebra. Mr Vandaugh is really strict and proud of his class." "I can tell." I said frankly. "It was my fault I was late on my first day of class." She laughed it off. "Don't bother about that. It happens to the best of us. You're using the school map. It's outdated. I wonder why they still hand out those. No wonder you came in late." She was right. I had wondered why so many buildings were in the wrong locations when I had eventually come face to face with them. "Here." She said her hand extended to the map. I gave it to her and she squeezed it into a ball and walked to a dustbin before throwing it away. "I will be your map." She said when she returned. "Now what class do you have now?" "Biology." I replied. She nodded. "That's good. I have that too." And Himari took me to the biology class. For the first time that morning, I entered a class without creating a scene. Fortunately enough for me, we had the same classes and even the same electives. It was such a relief for me. I didn't see that boy again. And I was relieved. I learnt that Himari was Japanese and her family had lived in Brookville for over two hundred years. She was really intelligent and math was her favorite subject. How I wished that was me. "So where do you live?" Himari asked me as we went down the hall. "Uhmmm..I live with my grandparents." I replied not sure i wanted to let everyone know my mum was no more or i was an orphan. "We just moved here yesterday." "That's alright." Himari said. I felt like she knew I had secrets to keep and she respected my privacy. "You probably don't know your street right?" She was right. I didn't. "No I don't. But I have a neighbor called Charlotte. She brought us to school here today." "I know Charlotte Bennett. She's alright. You said us?" Himari asked. "Yeah. I have a twin brother." I said passively. "No wonder." Himari said more to herself than to me. "No wonder what?" I asked. "Well I knew you were incomplete." Himari said still not really completely talking to me. I was further confused. "I was incomplete?" Then Himari looked at me. "What?" "You said I was incomplete." I said looking at her. "I did?" She asked looking genuinely confused. "Yes you did." I said bewildered. Himari laughed. "Don't mind me. I talk funny sometimes." Before i could reply, Himari greeted someone. "Hi Principal Fletcher." I looked up and saw an incredibly tall and attractive dark skinned man with dreadlocks Bob Marley would have envied. "Himari. How are you?" He asked. "I'm fine." She replied. Then he looked at me and he looked as if he had seen a ghost. "Fiona?" He said confused. I laughed awkwardly. "Oh no. I'm Denver." He breathed a sigh of relief. "My apologies. You just look so much like her. I was told of what happened and I was shocked to see you. I thought you were her." I nodded. I got that a lot. Even before she died. "It's fine." "You have a brother right? Your grandfather said so." Principal Fletcher asked. I nodded. "Yeah. He's somewhere around." Then Principal Fletcher looked at me and said. "I am sorry about what happened. Your mother and I were good friends. If you or your brother ever need anything, my door is always open to the both of you." I nodded looking at my feet. "It's fine. Thank you." Then he nodded and left, but not before looking back at me. Himari smiled at me. "Aren't you hungry? Cause I’m starving.” Himari hadn't asked what that was all about. She obviously now had an idea of why I came to Brookville, but didn't press buttons on it and I silently thanked her for it. As we walked to the cafeteria together Himari swore. "s**t!" "What?" I asked her. She put her hand on her temple. "I have some paper work I need to resolve with the librarian. Can I see you later?" I shrugged. "Sure. Why not?" "Alright bye, take care." I waved at her. She did the same and she left. I walked into the cafeteria and immediately wished I had asked to follow Himari. It was too rowdy and I had nowhere to sit. Then I looked and saw Charlotte sitting with Denis. I walked up to them and sat down. "Hi." I said setting my tray down. They both looked up at me, and Denis seemed delighted. "Where have you been?" Denis asked me. "In and out of my classes. I had the worst day you can't even imagine." I said taking a bite of my apple. "What happened? You didn't successfully find your class?" Charlotte asked. Easy for her to say. She had full concentration on Denis throughout. I wanted to snap at her and say I definitely missed it, in contrast to her ‘I definitely can’t miss it’, but I pushed my annoyance aside. I was still angry with her even though she hadn’t really done anything to upset me. "Yeah I didn't." I answered remembering the events of the early morning. "Some boy gave me the wrong class I don't know why." "What do you mean?" Denis asked me. "I mean I got lost and I saw this guy and he was the only one present, so I asked him for directions because he was the only one there. He pointed out the wrong class to me and when I eventually found the right class, he was in the class. I felt so stupid." I said cringing. "Maybe you did something to him." Charlotte said. I looked at her confused. "I literally know no one in the school." “Oh.” She mumbled. “Did you get his name? What did he look like?” I wondered if it really mattered knowing who it was, after all I was irritated with his whole persona. But I told her anyways. “He was tall. Just like Denis. He had dark hair.” I said to her. Charlotte prompted her brows for more descriptions. When she saw I was not giving any more, she was puzzled. “Is that it? He was tall, dark, is that it?” “That’s all I can remember okay?” There was no way I was going to tell Charlotte he was completely gorgeous or how his green eyes lit or how perfect his jawline was. No way. “No name?” She asked. Then I thought deeper. I had actually heard a name. “I think I heard the teacher call him Brook boy or something.” “Did you say Brook?” Charlotte shot at me. Before I could reply a small party of four people came by our table. “Hi!” They said buzzing with curiosity. I looked up and saw a blonde girl, an Indian girl, a nice looking and very obvious jock and a seemingly friendly boy in glasses. Charlotte looked up. “Heyyyyyyyyy guys. Didn’t see you guys this morning.” “We didn’t see you either. Classes have been hectic.” The Indian girl said. Charlotte turned to Denis and I. “Guys, meet my friends.” “This is Sasha.” She pointed at the blonde girl. “This is Ron.” She pointed at the Jock. “Anushka.” She pointed at the Indian girl. Then she pointed at the boy in glasses. “Allen.” “Guys meet Denis and Denver. They are twins and they just moved from Philadelphia to Brookville.”Charlotte finished up. "Hi." We waved at them. "I didn't think we were going to have transfer students in the middle of a term." Anushka said. I laughed gingerly. "You never can tell huh?" "Philadelphia huh? Why would you want to move to brookvile. It's so lame you have no idea." Sasha chipped in. "I saw you in Algebra." Ron said to me. "Mmmmmmh?" I said briskly. Charlotte saved me any further embarrassment when she interrupted the conversation. "Is that the guy you were talking about?" She asked me. I looked around in the direction she was pointing at, and everyone did too. Lo and behold, it was him. He was walking into the cafeteria with a set of identical twin girls right by his side, there were two other boys with him. They looked older than him, but they seemed to hold him in high reverence. They sat on an empty table. Then I turned back to look at Charlotte and every one else. "Yes that's him." I said. "Woah. That's Jack Brook. He's the hottest boy in the entire school. His family literally owns the town. You get the name? Brook, Brookville." Charlotte said to me. "They don't own the town exactly." Sasha waved dismissively. "They were just the founders no big deal." For some reason or the other Sasha did not hold the Brooks in high esteem. Maybe a denied advance. "Who are the others?" I asked trying my best not to look back. "Those are his twin sisters Rhea and London. They are hot." "No they are not. They are just basic plastics no big deal." Sasha pouted trying her best to bring them down. "Their t**s are not fake." Anushka pointed out. Sasha became red. "The other boys are Tim and Eli Jefferson. They are always together with Jack. Almost always anyways. No one knows their relationship with the Brooks, but they have always stuck around Jack. Like guards." Ron interrupted putting a halt to the budding tension. Charlotte turned back at me. "No one talks to the Brooks. Absolutely no one. I really wonder why he tricked you." "So do I." I mumbled to myself. "But you know, there is a legend about the Brooks." Anushka said in a calm and whispery voice. "What legend?" I asked now very curious. "Well, there is a legend that in the seventeenth century when the Brooks came to Brookville, there had been a war. A war between them, demons and some other people. Anyways they fought each other and when they saw that no one was winning, they signed a treaty between all of them. The Brooks were more superior so they maintained control of Brookville and let the others remain, but never cross their path. But there is something else." Anushka said whispering further, creating more tension. "The Brooks legend has it that the Brooks are not normal people. That they are something more, not human." "What are they?" I asked getting a little scared "Flesh eaters!" Anushka said ridiculously and laughing. I rolled my eyes feeling foolish for being afraid for absolutely no reason. "Well it's just a myth, nothing more." Ron said. I looked away from their chatter and turned slightly behind to look at the Brooks. To my utmost shock, Jack was looking at me. Our eyes locked and I quickly looked away. I waited a few minutes and turned back again. He was still looking at me. Looking at me so intently, I felt myself go red. Then everyone else on his table turned to look at me one after the other. I hurriedly turned away and in my carelessness, I spilled my juice. "Are you OK?" Denis asked me frowning. I laughed awkwardly. "Yeah why not?" I was the worst liar on the planet. Denis looked at me, then turned to look at Jack's table. I saw them lock eyes and I felt my knees go wobbly. Denis was completely unpredictable. It was like sometimes his mind was completely off. He did whatever he wanted to do, whenever he wanted to, when no one expected him to. "Denis." I said uncomfortably. But Denis was not budging. He refused to take off his eyes from Jack, as if daring him to do his worst. I touched Denis's hand and tried to deter him from his gaze. "Denis how was arts class? I forgot to ask." Denis completely ignored me. I was shaking with absolute fear. It would be horrible if we got expelled on the first day of school if Denis did something to Jack. Denis was so protective of me it worried me a lot. "Denis?" I tried again. My heart was beating fast. Then my saving grace came when the school bell rang. Break was over. Charlotte turned sharply at Denis. "Denis we have Geography together!" It was getting really weird the way Charlotte and Denis were always stuck together. Then I saw the Brooks rise up from their table. "What class do you have right now?" I heard a voice ask I turned and saw Ron leaning over me. "Oh." I said and said to him dismissively. "I think Literature." I quickly turned back to look at the Brooks table. It was empty and they had all gone. I turned back to Ron with a frown on my face, I was annoyed he had interrupted my concentration. "I'm having that too. Cool." He said taking no note of my fallen face and failing woefully to hide his excitement. "Can I take you there?" I sighed and tried to be nice. It wasn't his fault after all. "Why not, sure." "Bye." I said to Denis and Charlotte as I left the table with Ron. * * * I met Himari at classes. I didn't see Jack Brook again. Ron was all over me and I very much was not too keen with his over friendliness. "Do you need a ride?" Himari asked me. I shook my head. "No, Charlotte brought us in hers. It won't be exactly nice if I leave without her." "That is true." Himari replied. I saw Ron looking around and I hid underneath Himari. "Ron has been on me all through. I'm hiding from him." "He's gone now." Himari said. I rose up and smiled. "Thanks." Himari and I went to the receptionist's office to return my slip. "Hello dear. Did you have a great day at school? Himari. How nice to see you." Miss Lane said to us. I gave her a sour look as I handed her my slip. Thanks to you I was late for class, but I didn't say that. Rather I mumbled a bland. "It was fine." Himari just smiled at her. "Were the students sweet? And why are you all alone? Your brother came by with that Bennet girl. Aren't you two twins? Shouldn't you be together? Why is that Bennet girl with him?" Miss Lane asked me. I ignored her completely. She smiled. "Well it seems all the teachers signed on the slip. That would be all. Do have a lovely day." I turned on my heel and we walked out of the receptionist's office. "Gossip." Himari snickered. As we walked by I was pushed away and my books dropped to the floor. "Are you blind?" I demanded. A tall girl with fabulous straight blonde hair turned to look at me. Then she put her hand on her chest in false pity. "Oh I'm sorry did I hurt you?" She turned to laugh at two other girls beside her. An unpleasant but beautiful dark haired looking Latino girl, and another blonde with curls. "When you are in my way, you move. Get it?" She threatened at me taking off her laughing face and replacing with a mean one. "Is that supposed to intimidate me?" I fired back. The girl pulled her face into an ugly scowl. "Who do you think you are to talk to me that way?" The Latino girl looked at me. "What is she? A red fur ball? Never seen it in my entire life." "I know right? As ugly as a red lion." The blonde girl with curls said. The leader turned to look at the girl with curls. "What are you talking about?" The girl with curls looked confused. "Red lions. Aren't Lions red with stripes?" "It's Tigers. Tigers are red with stripes." The Latino girl pointed out irritated. "Are you sure? Aren't they supposed to- "The both of you shut up!" The leader shrieked. I saw Himari bend to pick up my books. She flipped her perfect hair and turned back to me. "I have never seen you, don't know what you are, and i don't care. But do not make a mistake of crossing my path. Ok b***h?" Himari who had been watching the whole scene walked up to the blonde girl and pushed her to the floor. The girl fell down and landed on her bum. I was so surprised. Especially because Himari's height made it seem impossible. "Try that one more time and I will kick you in your pretty face. Ok b***h?" Himari said to her. I was amazed. The girls just looked at us in shock. Himari took my hand and pulled me away. "That was awesome." I said to Himari looking at her in new awe. "Ashley is the blonde leader, Maria is the Latino and Lilian is the dumb one. They are unnecessary bullies." Himari said in disgust. We walked into the car park. "So I'll see you tomorrow?" I asked Himari. "Definetly." She said to me. We switched numbers then I saw Denis walk up to me. "That's my brother. You want to meet him?" I asked her. She smiled. "No I'm just going to be on my way. Bye." "Bye!" I waved back at her as she left. Denis came up to me. "Who was that?" "Himari. She is a friend I made." I said to me. "Are you ready to go home now?" He turned from Himari's direction and nodded. "Yeah." As we walked to Charlotte's car, I caught sight of Jack Brook again and I felt my heartbeat quicken. He was standing near a sleek Mercedes Benz that must have cost a fortune, looking at me. As if Denis knew, he turned and saw Jack too. "What the f**k does this guy want? First he makes fun of my sister, now he's daring me?" Denis said angrily. Denis had the quickest anger. He could get angry in a split second and it was ugly. I knew Denis's anger was not just anger. It came deep from within him and whenever it unleashed, he did things that even scared me. I held his arm. "Denis let's go. Please." He was reluctant, and I had to drag him away. He got into the car and before I could follow, I turned back to look at Jack Brook. He was still looking at me. His face complete expressionless. I felt my heart beat quicken again and I got into the car. I didn't know what it was, but there was something more and I knew it.
