Gavin
It has been three weeks since one of my loyal workers had died. It's always tough for me seeing on them go down like this. But honestly, being in the game can also lead to sacrificing your own life.
Brandon was a young hustler, but he held his head high through the end. When he was young, his daddy had walked out on him, his mother, and his sister. His mother was barely getting by with working two jobs and getting them social security checks.
He was tired of them struggling, so he decided to resort to the streets. That's when he came across me.
I'll give it to Brandon though, he had a lot of heart for himself and others. He was willing to do anything to keep his family above waters until he took his last dying breath.
I heard about his situation and how much he needed the money, so I put him on. However, I knew in my gut that I shouldn't have never let him in the game. Now look at him, he is nothing but ash in a damn jar.
He had a beautiful service and everyone had paid their respects to him.
As for I, I stood by myself after the ceremony, because funerals are not my thing.
I stood by my car outside of the church and just blew a joint. The sobbing of people and losing one of my loyal workers kills my vibe.
As I was taking another pull, I heard the church doors opening and Randy making his way towards me.
"Wassup man?" He said giving me dap. I blew a cloud of smoke and gave him some play in return.
"Wassup bruh." I took another hit and let the smoke sink into my body before I released it.
"You been out here for half the service?"
"Yeah man... a lot of s**t on my mind right now, but my main focus is taking that nigga Omar out. It's bad enough that he's been f*****g with my money and he's killing off my men." I took another hit.
"I understand man and we'll get his ass."
I took one more hit of my weed and put it out. As I saw people coming out of the church, I saw a weeping woman with a teenage girl with her. I'm assuming it was Brandon's mother and his sister.
I would go over there and give my condolences, but I wasn't in the mood to introduce myself to them. I looked away from that direction and shook my head wondering what am I going to do.
"Aye yo man I'm 'bout to head out." I informed Randy.
"A'ight bruh," We gave each other play, I hopped in my car and drove off. I wasn't in the mood to go home so I took a detour and and headed to my parents house to talk to my dad.
He knew a lot about this game, and he taught me everything there is to know. But, every now and then I get a few more pointers from him.
I've made it to my parents house forty-five minutes later. I drove up to their gated house and typed in the code. I then drove up their long ass drive way.
I parked in front house I grew up in my teenage years. I locked my car up as I got out. I took out the key to my parents house, unlocked it, and stepped inside.
"Hello!! Anyone home!!!" I called out to see if anyone heard me. Seconds later, I heard someone running as I was closing the door.
"GAVI!!!!" My little sister, Marissa, shouted as she saw me.
"Hey Riss!!!" I slouched down to her level and embraced her with a big brotherly hug. I love my little sister so much. Even though we have a large age difference, me and her are very close.
She is seven-year-old and is in the the second grade. Crazy age gap I know. See the thing is, my parents had me at a very young age, sixteen and nineteen to be exact. Then when I was around fifteen, that's when little sister came into the family. She is my pride and joy and she sure does have me wrapped around her finger and she knows it.
You know for a seven-year-old second grader, the girl is pretty smart. She knows her rights and wrongs, and she is aware with everything that is around her. My sister is also a tough little girl too. I remembered one time I took her to the park to play at. She was playing on the swing set until some little girl was being a bully and tried to push her off the swing set, besides the fact that there was an empty one right next to her.
See now, I don't play when it comes to my baby sister, so I'd almost went over there and knocked that little girl out. Call me crazy for even thinking about hitting a child, but nobody messes with my family.
Soon as I got over there, Marissa was already beating her ass to the ground. She had that girl face down and bashing her head against the sand as well as pulling her two pigtails. As I was trying to break up the fight, Riss had a good grip of the girl's pigtails as I was persuading her to let go. I'm telling she's tough and I mean it!
Well, my dad raised us how to defend ourselves. That's what happens when you mess with Maurice Thompson's offsprings.
"Guess what Gavi?" She asked me.
"What's up?" I respond back as I was still holding her.
"I got an A+ on my spelling test yesterday!"
"For real?!" I replied with enthusiasm.
"Yeah! Miss. Patterson gave me two gold stars on it since I did so well!!" She stated with excitement.
"That's wasssup!" I hi-five her. "You a smart girl you know that? You so smart you that can become anything you want to be. So don't let anyone every tell you so, okay?"
"Okay." She replied back to me as I got up from my slouched position.
"Where momma and daddy at?" I held her hand as we were walking through the house.
"Mommy is in the kitchen making dinner, and daddy is... I don't know." She shrugged. I chuckled at this girl. She is so damn cute.
Man, will it be the day where I have to chase away some little knuckle headed niggas in the future. To be honest, I can't wait for that day.
I was fifteen when my parents had my sister. I was honestly surprised when they told me that I was litterly going to become a big brother. Ever since she was born, I knew she would grow up into a beautiful young woman. I will also know that horny niggas will be coming after her too. When that day comes, I will be scaring every motherfucker off if they even think about her.
As me and Marissa was engaging in our conversation, I heard heels clicking coming towards our direction.
"I thought I heard my baby boy!" My mother, Genesis, greeted me with a kiss on my cheek. "How you doing son?"
"I'm good momma how about you?" I replied back.
"Nothing I can't complain." My mother took a moment to look at my attire. "You went to church today or something?"
"No momma, a funeral." I huffed out.
"Oh, I'm so sorry son." She said in an apologetic tone.
"Yeah I know mom... Is dad around?"
"He should be in his office or something, you staying for dinner tonight babe?"
"Hell yeah!! You know I missed you cooking ma!" My mother giggled at my outburst.
"Well, dinner will be ready in a few minutes, in the meantime, why don't you spend some time with your sister Gavin." My mother suggested.
I've been so busy running everything, I rarely get to spend time with my little sunshine.
"Yeah!" Marissa cheered with excitement, "I got so much to tell you Gavi!" She grabbed my hand and led me to her room.
We did all those little girl stuff she likes to do: playing with dolls, dressup, tea parties, etc.. I didn't give a damn what we did, I'm just glad to spend some time with her.
"Gavi, am I pretty?" She asked me out of nowhere, I looked at her stunned as hell.
"No your not Marissa, you beautiful! Why would you ask me that?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Well, this boy in my class says that I'm ugly, and he always makes fun of the way I look. He he calls me other names too and always messes with me everyday." she sounded even more depressed. This s**t right here makes my blood boil. I damn near got half a mind to f**k that lil' nigga up. But, I know that's his childish way of letting her know he likes her. Damn, this s**t has already started. Yeah, this nigga gone have to see me. I don't give a damn what age he is.
"What's this boy's name?" I ask calmly even though I'm angry as hell inside.
"Darius."
"First of all Marissa, you a tough little girl. I know you can stand your own ground. You did it before with that girl in the park one time, you can do it again. Second of all, if that punk little boy bothers you again; tell him that your big brother Gavi don't play around when it comes to you okay?" She giggled and embraced me with a hug.
"I love you Gavi!"
"I love you too Riss!"
All of a sudden, we heard a knock at the door and then it opened. I reveals to be my our father, Maurice.
"You mother told me you were here." My dad said.
"Hey wassup dad, I would have looked for you, but as you can see..." I scanned around Marissa's room, "I got caught up with her." I pointed to my sister as she was cheesing at our dad.
"I see." he chuckled at her. "So, how are things going?" he asked referring to out business. I blew air out and rubbed the back of my neck. When I did that, he figured that things ain't going to good at the moment.
"Judging by that look and what you got on, not too good huh?" He already knew the answer to his own question.
He let out a long sigh then got himself together, "let's talk about that in my office son."
"Can I come too daddy?" My sister asked him.
"Sorry my pumpkin, but this is between me and your brother right now." My dad explained to her.
"Aww okay," she sulked then she started back up by asking him another question. "Hey daddy..." she said to get his attention.
"Yeah?"
"Can Erica spend the night Friday?" She asked her and my dad huffed a bit. Erica is Marissa's little friend in her class.
"Umm, we'll see what her mom or who ever says, okay?"
"Okay!" she cheesed at him.
"But listen sweetheart, me and you big brother got some big boy stuff to talk about. Why don't you go and help your momma out in the kitchen." My dad suggested to her.
"Okay!" She hurried and ran out of the door.
"Man I don't feel like dealing with her crazy ass momma." My dad scoffed.
"Who?"
"Her little friend's mother. I really hate that woman. She's been trying to sleep with me ever since she saw me."
I shook my head at that. Some bitches sure do have their nerve when it comes to some d**k.
"Anyway dad, I think you and mom need to have a talk with girl." I told my father as we made his way to his office.
"Why? What's wrong?" My dad asked worriedly.
"Some little punk likes her and he's calling her names and s**t. He had her thinking she ain't pretty." I told him.
He had the same stunned expression on his face as I did.
"What little punk?! Who in they right mind filled my baby girl's head with some bullshit like that?" He crossed his arm and asked lividly.
"Some little knucklehead name Darius." He paused for a moment then he shook his head.
"You know what... I deal with that later. Right now I what to know what's been going on lately." He said as we walked in his home office. He took a seat behind his desk and lit up a cigar as I took a seat in front of his desk.
"Well dad as you can tell, things are not going to good. I just came from one of my worker's funeral."
"What happened to him?"
"He got shot." I said abruptly.
My father sighed and leaned back against his chair. "Whose after you now this time Gavin?"
"Some nigga name Omar." My dad lit up his cigar and took a couple of puffs from it.
"And what does he want from you?"
"Same as the others...my spot." I shrugged. "...but I'mma take care of it dad. Don't worry."
"I hope so son. I've raised and trained you too well for you to fall back on s**t like this. But don't let these niggas intimidate you son. Cause you know if you let them, then that means that they got your ass." He reminded me.
"I know dad, I got it." I told him that I got all his knowledge down.
He nodded his head forward and just said "Okay."
"So, how was your birthday son?" My dad asked me with a wide grin on his face. I just laughed at this old man.
"It was lit dad." I snickered.
"How lit?" I chuckled at this old man.
"You is all up in my business pops!!" I chortled at him.
"Hell, I'm your father, it's my job to get in my kids business." He replied back. "Now answer my question boy."
"I had a good time." I said briefly. He sat there and studied me to get more information out of me.
"That's it?" He shrugged, "No p***y action or nothin?"
This ol' dirty ass motherfucker!
"See now that I don't want to speak on."
"Damn son was it that bad?"
"DAD!!" I said a little defensively.
"Well, s**t, it must not be since you getting defensive on me." He howled hard as he was holding his chest. I rolled me eyes at this old fart. "Whatever!" I scoffed.
"Anyway, it was just another one night stand though." I shrugged.
"See now, I thought you weren't going to tell me?" He joked as I smacked my teeth at him. "And why are you so choked up about it? You had a few one night stands before boy. s**t, I should know. Ya' had a few here before you moved out."
"Yeah I know, but can't get this one off my mind though. Ever since I saw her, she just constantly pops up in my head. It's like she got a hold on my or something." I said to him.
He looked at me in thought and snickered a bit. "You know who you remind me of?" He paused as I wait for his answer. "... me. See, when I sixteen, I had caught my eye on this cute little fourteen-year-old. I see her once in a while waking to the corner store and walking home. I just knew that I had to get her." He bit his lip as reminisced about that girl. I shook my head at his ol' hot in the pants ass chasing after some fourteen-year-old.
"Eww dad! What would that girl want with your old ass?" I scrunched. He stared at me with those murderous eyes like we was ready to knock my head off.
"Shut the f**k up boy!! Besides, no woman can resist that old Thompson charm." He smirked. I rolled my eyes at that statement. But none of the less, that is true.
"Whatever man, by the way, what did happen to that girl you pulled anyway? Did you had her? Do you ever see her?" I asked him as he sat there and glanced at me while taking another hit of his Cuban cigar.
"It just so happens, that she gave birth to you and your sister." All I did was display a shocked expression for a moment then shook it off. I should have known he was referring to my mother.
"All I'm saying is son, it sounds to me that cupid done finally struck yo ass."
"Whatchu mean?"
"Meaning you ass must be in love or something, s**t!"
"Na dad, not me, I don't do that love shit."
"Everyone falls in love sometimes Gavin." he scoffed, "It'll come at you when you least expect it, trust me. Like I said son, before I started this whole cartel, love wasn't something I would come across either. But now look at me, married for almost twenty years with two kids."
"Dad I'm not a f*****g kid anymore!" I sucked my teeth at him as I exaggerated.
"Shut yo ass up!" He leaned forward and smacked me on the back of my head. "I don't give a f**k what you is now, you still my child little boy, don't you forget that shit." I hissed and rubbed the back of my head to ease the pain. This man can still hit the s**t out of me.
All of sudden we heard a buzzer going off. "Guys dinner is ready!" My mother called out.
"We'll be down in a minute." My dad replied back.
"Good, I'm hungry as fuck." I rubbed my stomach as we made our way to the dining room.
"So son, how are you going to handle this Omar cat?" My dad asked as we walked down the hall.
"Like I said pops, I'll take care of it." I huffed out. "I'mma handle that nigga."
"I hope so."
