I had been carrying the burden of the world for far too long. I had forgotten what it was like to just breathe, what with the vineyard, the business, and all the never-ending plotting. Elena had, and I could see it in her eyes. Under the layers of responsibility and anxiety, the passion, spontaneity, and delight we had enjoyed had faded into a distant memory.
I thus felt a wave of relief wash over me when I decided to take us away, to a location where the craziness of our life had not affected us. This was necessary. This was what Elena needed.
