The quiet after the storm seemed almost unnatural, a lull I couldn’t seem to shake. The vineyard was my life, my future, and yet everything that had once seemed so solid now felt fragile. And after that phone call, after the rush to leave the island and face the threat that loomed over everything, Elena and I hadn’t had a real conversation. We hadn’t had the time, the space to simply breathe and exist together.
I wanted to, though. I wanted to forget about the vineyard, about the business, about the chaos—and just focus on us. Just Elena and me. I wanted to be the man who could promise her everything we talked about when we first met. I wanted us to have a life beyond the shadows of our past, beyond all the stress and pressure we’d been under.
