The sound of flashing cameras and hushed rumors filled the gallery, but it was all for nothing. No more. Elena was standing next to me, her hand clasped around mine, her eyes brimming with the same calm resolve I had learned to respect and trust. Tonight was about us, together, not the media or the gossip that was going on around us.
I had never been the attention-seeking kind, but I would stop at nothing to keep Elena safe. People from all walks of life, including reviewers, art collectors, and business experts, crowded the exhibition.
