My study's window let in the early sun, which streaked the wood desk with golden light. Usually, this time of day offers purpose and clarity. But today, my thoughts were jumbled and my chest felt heavy.
I struck a pile of unopened contracts with the pen I was holding. For now, none of it mattered. Elena and Lily were the only two individuals left in my universe. However, despite my best efforts, I was unable to convince either of them that I was committed.
