Adrian’s POV
The big, leather-bound folder lay on my desk, taunting me with its presence. The remains of a contract that had formerly governed every facet of my relationship with Elena were found within. The conditions were straightforward: a mutually beneficial agreement. However, I was now frantic to break the weight of that promise, which seemed like a chain.
Leaning back in my chair, I stared out the window to the vineyard beyond. This location has served as both my haven and my jail, as well as my legacy. I had immersed myself in its demands for years, using it as a way to avoid facing the emptiness inside of me.
