Chapter Nineteen Several days later, Gabe stood at the counter of the local hardware store. He needed a few items for the house and his boat. Gabe listened half-heartedly to the gossip Fred Albert was sharing. Fred had owned Fred’s Hardware, Marine, and the Five and Dime for the last twenty-five years. His wife Mildred had once told Gabe that when Fred died, she was going to have him stuffed and put in the window.
