LondonTUESDAY was Andrei’s last full day in London. Sasha was still glowing from the Consul’s praise. He took Andrei to have a drink in a pub near the Embassy. ‘Not a bad young man,’ Sasha said to himself again. ‘So quiet, but at least he won’t cause us any problems.’ Apart from this visit to the pub, Andrei had had no social contact with him during his eight weeks in London. He had none at all with any British people apart from handling their visa papers and in the queue for the concert. On Wednesday morning Andrei closed the door of his tiny bedroom for the last time.
