Ares POV
All of the alphas are filing into the hall so we can spend the day going over their reports. Ash is beside me while Adonis makes sure everything else is running smoothly.
My mind keeps wandering back to the little omega servant from yesterday. I don't know why, but when I looked at her, I felt a sense of peace. Something I've never felt before, and I was curious to know more about her. By the way today's reports are going, it looks like we will be here all day.
She is so beautiful, with her blonde hair and grayish-blue eyes. Her hair was wrapped in a bun, but I could tell it was probably long. She has such natural beauty, and I admit I would have looked at her all day if I didn't have business to attend to. When I looked for her, she seemed to have disappeared.
I don't know why I am taking an interest in one girl. My Lycan, Strike, won't stop pacing in my head either. I focused my attention back on the meeting at hand. I'm sure I will cross paths with her again.
Arabella POV
Today is the second day of the summit, which is great because it means I won't have to worry about seeing King Damon.
Unfortunately, that doesn't include the queen, who comes bursting into Sam and my room. Now that King Damon is gone, I don't have his protection.
Her little, bitchy servants are behind her. They instantly grab both of my arms and pin me against the wall. I struggle to get free, but the queen comes up to me and punches me in the stomach.
Cassie goes into a corner in fear.
"You f*****g slut," she sneers, and it is followed by another punch.
I hunch over, but the queen's servants lift me back up. Two of them are holding down Sam. Cassie is standing in the corner with her head down.
"Please stop; it's not my fault," I pleaded, but she didn't want to hear it.
The queen punched me a few more times while calling me names before a growl was heard in the doorway, causing everyone's heads to turn. It was one of the triplets from yesterday.
"What is going on here?" he demanded, his eyes narrowing at Queen Liza.
The servants still had me pinned against the wall.
"Nothing, Alpha, just showing this little servant her place," Liza said in a would-be sweet voice.
I could tell he was looking at me, but I kept my eyes down. I didn't want him to think I was being disrespectful.
"She looks like she has had enough. Release her," he demanded.
His aura was so strong that they released me at once, and I fell to the floor. They released Sam as well, who ran to me instantly.
"Leave," the man commanded, and they all scattered quickly.
Sam helped me up and sat me on the bed.
"Thank you, Alpha, but I can take over from here," Sam said, keeping her head down.
"What is your name?" he asked.
"My name is Sam, sir; her name is Cassie; and this is my best friend, Arabella," she said, lifting her head to look at him.
He walked from the door and knelt in front of me. My head was still down, so I couldn't see his face, but I could see the way his black shirt was clinging to his chest, and even through the pain, I wanted to reach out and touch it. I restrained myself.
My heart was beating faster than usual, and Royal was doing f*****g flips in my head, not making any of this easier.
"Look at me," he said, gripping my face in his firm hands.
His touch felt like heaven. I looked up slowly, taking in this gorgeous man's features. He was so handsome, with tousled jet-black hair, tan skin, and hazel eyes. Oh, my goddess, this man was gorgeous.
"Arabella, my name is Adonis. I'm going to pull your shirt up a little so we can take a look at your injuries. Is that okay?" he asked.
I nodded, still hypnotized by those beautiful hazel eyes. He pulled his hands away from my face, and I almost whimpered at the loss of touch. He lifted my shirt a little, just under my breasts. He growled. I looked down at the black-and-blue bruises.
Sam ran to get her medical bag. This wasn't my first rodeo with her. She came back and applied some bruise ointment that helps speed up healing with my wolf. Cassie got some water and warm cloths to soothe the wounds.
"Why did she hit you?" he asked, standing up.
I wanted to tell him the truth, but he would just tell Alpha Damon, who would probably hit me again for causing a scene.
"She hits me because I am a slut. I sleep with the king as his mistress. You shouldn't concern yourself with me, Alpha. While I am thankful you helped me, please don't next time. I deserve what my queen does," I told him, looking down again.
I heard Sam growling softly — I was sure her face was annoyed by my lying. I could feel Adonis's eyes burning into me, as if he were trying to figure me out. After a while, he left. When he reached the door, he turned around.
"What's your pack name?" he asked.
"Blood Moon of North Carolina," I told him.
"Don't forget to apply that ointment once more; it will help with the bruising," he said, and then he closed the door.
"Why did you lie to him?" Sam demanded as she and Cassie helped me lay down on the bed.
"I don't want him to tell Alpha Damon about it," I told her.
She shook her head and crawled into bed with me, running her fingers through my hair. Cassie was called away to help her king. After a while, Sam fell asleep, and my thoughts drifted back to the beautiful man with the hazel eyes.
Adonis POV
I was running through the forest near the visitor's area when I heard something strange. It wasn't so much a sound — more like a distress signal I could feel inside of me. My Lycan, Silas, was curious as well, as it caught us both by surprise. We followed it.
I changed back into human form. One of the perks of our triplet powers is the ability to retain our clothes when we shift back.
The feeling led me to a certain room, and as I approached, I heard punching sounds, followed by a girl pleading for them to stop. What the f**k? I got to the door and growled, making everyone stop and look at me.
I saw a girl looking helpless, and it was pissing me off — which was strange, because I'm not easy to anger. I glared at the woman hitting her, and after she gave me her reason, I made her and everyone else who didn't belong leave.
I wanted to tear that woman's head from her body. Again, I didn't know where this anger was coming from.
The other girl explained that her name was Sam, and the beaten girl's name was Arabella. She tried to get me to leave the room, but I didn't want to. Arabella was such a beautiful name, and Silas growled in agreement.
I got on my knees, trying to see her face, since she was keeping her head down and wouldn't look at me. She smelled a little off — like a regular wolf, but with something layered on top that didn't belong. I couldn't explain it.
I took her face in my hands and was met by the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. She looked like a little angel, even with pain written across her face. I lifted her shirt and saw the black-and-blue bruises forming. Silas and I growled. I could even see the outlines of past wounds that had healed — this clearly wasn't the first time. I wanted to kill that woman and the ones who had held her down.
Sam got some ointment meant to speed healing. The other girl put a cloth on her wounds.
"Why did she hit you?" I asked Arabella.
She explained that she was a slut and a mistress of the king. Her voice was so sad, and her friend Sam growled — which told me she was lying to me. I didn't push the issue. I decided to leave, get her pack name, and let Sam know to apply the ointment again before shutting the door.
I linked my beta.
"Yes, boss," Kyle linked back.
"I have a secret mission for you," I told him.
"My favorite kind — what is it?" he asked.
"I need you to get me everything you have on the Alpha King of North Carolina and his mistress, Arabella," I linked to him.
"On it, boss," he said, and I closed the connection.
Thankfully, our beta doesn't ask questions. I didn't know why I felt drawn to her, but I would find out why she was lying to me. Whether she liked it or not.
