As Kendrick raced blindly through the fog, he cursed his leather soles. He had won them from a man of diminutive stature who had passed through the lodge. The individual had financed a group’s entire trip to the Glasslands and at the last moment insisted that he joined them. He told Kendrick that he relied on his money and his luck to get him out of trouble. Kendrick had then played the man at cards and won his watch, collar, shoes and hairpiece. The man had taken this to mean this was the last of his bad luck and that his good luck would start when he entered the Woods en route to the Cathedral of Tales.
