Thirty-SixIt had been five days since the bust-up with his father and whenever he thought of it Alex’s heart burned with a sense of having been badly wronged. He’d dutifully reported daily to his desk at De Vile’s Nevada City office, but Hector was away on business so they hadn’t been forced to see one another. The reprieve gave him relief because he didn’t think he could keep his silence if Hex started in on it again. ‘Hex.’ He clicked his tongue against his teeth.
