Chapter 36 Miron I didn't go straight back to the suite after Eldric’s little side meeting. I should have. That’s what a good enforcer would’ve done—report to Voss, log the suspicious phrase, wait for orders. Instead, I rode the lift up with my fire sitting low and ugly in my chest and one thought pounding louder than the hum of the wards. Get her out. Even for a little while. When the suite door slid open, Rayna was exactly where I felt her—on the couch, blanket around her legs, a tablet in her hand she wasn’t actually reading. The bond fed me her mood before her face did. Restless. Worried. Tired in a way sleep wasn’t fixing. She looked up when I stepped in. “You’re back.” “Closed session’s over,” I said. “Nobody died. Yet.” “Comforting,” she said dryly. “How was the yelling?”
