“Why did you have to do that, Mom?” I frowned. The smile that had appeared after talking with Jax quickly faded. “Did you really need to bring that up during dinner? You didn’t even let him finish eating!”
Mom was still seated when I returned, but she stood and looked at me with a blank expression.
“I believe you, Elena. I know you’re not that kind of woman because I’ve raised you. But you can never be too sure about people. He needs to prove he’s worthy of you,” she said before heading to the sink.
“Sure. I’m confident he can do that, Mom. He’ll prove you wrong,” I replied firmly and walked back to my room.
