Jax’s POV
I ran straight for Alpha Garrison’s room, heart pounding. Torin’s face had already told me enoughmy father was in bad shape. Elena and Mom called after me, but I didn’t stop. I needed to reach him, and in that rush I forgot Elena still wasn’t well herself.
An Omega stood outside the door when I reached the top of the stairs. The same worry sat on her face that I’d seen on Torin’s, and it only made the knot in my chest tighter.
Whispers rose as people noticed me. They moved aside to clear a path.
A few pack members called my name, but I pushed past them and stepped into the room.
The air inside felt heavy.
Alpha Garrison lay on the bed, breathing hard and shallow. The pack doctor stood at his side, eyes lowered in quiet sorrow.
