CHAPTER NINETEEN
The cops have a rule of thumb that has proved to be quite accurate. If a homicide isn’t solved, or if you fail to generate a hot lead within forty-eight hours, the odds are that the case will never be solved. As the weeks have turned into months I’m very much aware that the case of the missing salesmen has faded from the memories of the public.
This morning’s staff meeting at the Reporter with Specs playing cheerleader tells us there is a small dip in the circulation. This, of course, is the fault of less than brilliant reporting. He glares at me as he remarks that some of the reporters are spending time on nowhere stories instead of digging for first class material.
