CHAPTER NINETEEN The cops have a rule of thumb that has proved to be quite accurate. If a homicide isn’t solved, or if you fail to generate a hot lead within forty-eight hours, the odds are that the case will never be solved. As the weeks have turned into months I’m very much aware that the case of the missing salesmen has faded from the memories of the public.
