Marlise pinched her nose as she turned to face the boys, but they had no reaction at all it's like they have been doing this for quite sometime. “You better get used to it, madam explorer”, Martin chuckled. “So how long have you guys been working for my aunt?“, she asked as she squatted down to unpack the small bag pack. “Well, it hasn't been that long. I should say, at least five years maybe“, the talkative one answered as he covered his short spears in a black powdered substance. But five years or more is not much of a joke. Another question in demand, 'what am I even doing here?' They were surrounded by a number of thick trees and the spot where They're at is the only one spacey enough to occupy ten people without coming into contact with a tree or bushes. Martin begun, “You see that tree over there? It called the Rowan tree.“ “One of Merri Bean's discoveries?“ , Marlise interjected with excitement cutting him off mid sentence. “That's right. But you might ask your self, what is so special about it such that it could even kill a beast like a warewolf? Well, an answer to that is simple.” “The Rowan tree has outstanding properties that distinguishes it from these other, when burned completely it produces ashes. But these are no ordinary ashes like the ones you see. Instead of white, they maintain a dark black color.“ “We call it Mountain Ash“, Theo completed the sentence. Then Martin continued, he lifted a small sharp knife for a demonstration, “when I touch the mountain ash nothing happens to me as you can see. But once it enters a warewolf's body it's a whole different story”. “It engulfs their fresh where by one could die within a couple of hours straight. We mainly use it to inhibit immediate shifting or slow down their counter attacks“. “The only way that one can survive this is by burning it out with fire- “ “Martin, no one told you to add that part. Step two, lure the them into your trap. They can detect our scent without concealation but so can we detect their movements with sound. We use emitters that produces higher pitched sound they cannot withstand“. From then on Amelia explained on how she got beaten by a warewolf the previous day. Following the tracks left by the predator now prey in the current situation, she suggested that they used emitters to track it down. She went on to explain how warewolves rank themselves. Starting with the park leader, the Alpha. Just like we human's are, we are being ruled by monarchs or Democratic candidates. Same applies to the warewolves but in a more distinctive way. The Alpha is the head of the pack or clan, whatever rule he makes becomes law. And then comes the beta, second in command to the Alpha. Then an Omega, the pack's outcast, a lone wolf. As of the Alpha's Paw, Marlise had been given a mission to figure it out herself. Marlise heard everything that Amelia outlined, but her eyes were focused on the Rowan tree that Martin had pointed out minutes ago. “Do warewolves have glowing eyes?“, She asked with a puzzled look. “They do, why do you ask?“, Theo asked back. All their attention turning towards her. “I think there are blue eyes staring at us behind that Rowan tree.“ “Then my little cut has been here whole this time? Well done, marse! Your sharp eyes are quite useful indeed. This one with the audacity is mine, I will let you join the boys on the next prey.“ After saying that, she begun shooting spears towards the Rowan tree. At first there was no sound, no movement at all. Then came a woman's scream as she charged towards them.. Everything happened in seconds, Marlise had no time to react at all. She froze. To her that woman seemed human enough even though only her blue eyes admits it differently. Then all of the sudden, the tips of the woman's fingers begun to transform into long, sharp claws. Within seconds, she transformed into a warewolf while charging at them at a sharper pace. “hold.. hold, now!“, Amelia commanded. By the time that Marlise returned back to reality, there was a wolf laying down a few inches from her feet. What had just happened? “One important rule to remember, make sure to stub a warewolf when in its full glory. That way, it won't be easy for it to fight back“, Amelia added with excitement. It is the first time since since they embarked on this journey that she has been noted to be this cheerful like she is known to be. “You know her less than you believe so“, those words echoed in Marlise's ear. This is the so called duty, but what has she enticed herself into when she isn't fit for this kind of task. Adrenaline kicked in and before knew it, she was running deeper into the forest. Marlise heard Amelia's panicked voice calling for her, followed by Martin's and then Theo. But she did not stop, not even for a second, not even when she couldn't hear them anymore. She kept on running not until she couldn't feel her. She scanned the surrounding, and no sound is heard apart from that of nature itself. It is at this moment she realized that her quick legs had led her into the unknown. The atmosphere here is more chill than where they had camped and to make matters worse, she is unable to make out the right route she came through because she can't recall how many trees she had cycled to make it to here. 'should I scream for help? But what if I end up alarming the warewolves. Speaking of which, they're so many holes in Amelia's synopsis. Where do they occupy exactly?' “I can ask myself as many questions as further as the night deepens but that won't take me back home'. 'Think Marlise, Marse.. whatever your stupid name is. What would Amelia do? Opt 1, stay hidden until help arrives. Opt 2, run as fast as you came and might end up running to the others or a warewolf'. Marlise kept on going up with these ideas not realizing that there's something dark near her. Something sharp, something that also has glowing eyes. “Is she alright or has she been affected by the coming full moon in advance?“, one of the figures hidden behind the thick trees asked. “I can smell fear emitting from her and her heartbeat is beating really fast. At least she's no human or I could have ripped her skin to shreds“, another chimed in. “Finally, we claim our reward for bringing a lone wolf back to the clan. It's been ages since we ran into one.“ “Can you imagine! All we gotta do is take it down and take her back home. That way, she won't recognize the route we used.” Marlise diverted her attention to the direction of the sound. She could hear voices but couldn't make out the people who were speaking. “He.. Hell-”, before she could make out a word, someone cover her mouth and pulled her into the wilderness. She wanted to scream but the hand placed on her mouth restricted her actions. Hence she turned to look at this person only to be met by red eyes. 'A warewolf', but before she could speak her thoughts out aloud, she was knocked unconscious.
