Chapter 4

POV... I can't recall the moment I had actually fallen asleep last night. All I know is that I had this weird dream that kept me up awake the entire time, not to mention that every part of me kinda of hurts right now. Just has I was about to have an early morning nap, I felt someone suddenly walk into my room. But I still kept my eyes shut thinking it might be the house keeper or one of my parents. Not until the rays of direct sunlight hit my face and that instantly woke me up. “Mom! I'm still feeling sleepy”, I called out to this person after second guessing their silhouette. “Wait-”, I froze. This was neither my room back at home nor at the lake vounty. I scanned this unfamiliar room with walls embroidered with Gold, Red and Orange-Black curtains. And mostly importantly, I faced the person who had opened the window causing the cold air to hit my face. It was a middle aged woman in her mid forties. “Good morning honey”, the woman greeted not minding my puzzlement. “Morning”, I replied with visible confusion. “You can call me, Ms Bridgette. I have prepared everything for you, let me help you freshen up.“ She introduced. “Umm! Ms Bridgette”, I called out. “Yes dear?“, she replied. “What's happening? Why am I here? What is this place?“, I bombarded with continuous questions. “You know what, for a moment when you walk up with that puzzled expression of yours I thought you were a mute. But turns out little cat has got a sharp tongue. I know that it's unsettling to be rejected by your own pack let alone be taken in by another. It's rare for our Alpha to be interested in a lone wolf, but surprisingly he returned with one last night”, this so-called Ms Bridgette outlined. Then it suddenly hit me as if being poured by a bucket of cold water. That weird dream wasn't actually a dream, but an occurrence of everything that happened the previous night. Which meant... “Ms Bridgette”, I called out again. “Yes, dear.“ “Is.. this-”, but she cut me off mid sentence before I could even finish my question as she interjected. “The Bruem-ring pack, under Alpha Alphie Adornavonte”, she replied with excitement and praise for both the pack and the their Alpha. Bang! My heart skipped a bit even though I tried really hard not to show my anxiety but she noticed. She gave me a pitiful yet somewhat emphatic look, the one you give to someone who is about to be persecuted or about to be hanged. “Oh dear! How much have you gone through to be this scared to your wits-”, before she could finish her sentence there was a panicked knock at the door. “Former third lady! Another one is down. You are needed as soon as possible!“, the informant reported. After hearing this, there was panick in Ms Bridgette's eyes as she rushed outside telling me to help myself and not wonder outside. Now it's only myself and I left in this unfamiliar room that screams nothing but archaic Royalty. I diverted my attention to myself, from Ms Bridgette's synopsis I'm presumed to be a lone wolf, an Omega. To be honest I don't blame myself for dieping into the unknown, blame my fast legs. Puting Everything aside, whether be it human or warewolf I decided to first take a shower then think about everything else moments later. Last night's run had left quite some noticeable marks on me which is making me feel pain everywhere, not to mention the scent of dead wolf still lingers on me. It turns out that I still have that spray with no name with me. No sooner had I finished taking a shower, than I returned to bed to at least sabdue this aching pain and an upcoming headache that I could feel. ... Meanwhile, at some area within the pack, a few kilometers from the Alpha's quarters. A loud crowd had gathered around a warewolf in it's full glory lying on the cold muddy grounds. At this moment, Ms Bridgette had arrived and was checking on this warewolf if he still had some conscious left. She leaned down and whispered, “you need to shift back into man before he arrives, okay?“ But the grey wolf only let out a low whimper audible enough to the people surrounding him. “Call the doctor! We need to save him as soon as possible.“ Standing in a circle, no one dared to budge nor do as they were told to do. Rather, they begun to make way for someone more formidable to pass through, someone worthy enough to make them shudder without saying a single word. “The Alpha's left hand man has arrived!“, someone informed and there was a moment of dead silence. “Who is bold enough to defile ancestry?“, Gemma asked as he came closer with his subordinates trailing in behind him. “The second son of the Gondwen tribe”, one of his confidantes informed. “Then what are you all doing here if not for the alter or preparing for tonight's selection? The Alpha himself has matters to attend to, that's why I'm feeling in for him“, he outlined scanning everyone present. “Gemma, please have mercy. The boy is being affected by the coming full moon, but we'll do our best to shift him back”, Ms Bridgette pleaded. “Then, isn't that what we do at the alter of the unfilial warewolves? Don't taste my patience, I still have a lot of matters to attend to or maybe you want to face him directly”. “The Alpha's word is law and I dare not defile against him”, She stood up and gestured for the collectors to take away the wolf. With that, everyone begun to disperse as they went back to continue with their previous task. Ms Bridgette also went back to her quarters to tend to Marlise despite her mood having become sour. When she arrived, the latter had already freshen up and was taking a nap. Without giving it much thought, she begun assisting with tonight's selection and all the necessary decorations.
