Forbidden Gravity

Elena stood frozen in her apartment, her heart pounding as she stared out the window. Marcus was still there, his figure silhouetted against the streetlight, his gaze fixed on her. She quickly closed the curtains, her mind racing. What did he want? And why was he watching her? She grabbed her phone and considered calling Julian, but something stopped her. He’d already warned her about Marcus, and she didn’t want to seem paranoid. Instead, she texted Claire: “Can you come over? I need to talk.” Claire’s response was immediate: “On my way.” The Confidante Twenty minutes later, Claire burst through the door, her eyes wide with concern. “What’s going on? You sounded freaked out.” Elena took a deep breath and told her everything—the gala, Julian, Marcus, the kiss, the club, the warning. Claire listened intently, her expression shifting from shock to worry. “Okay,” Claire said when Elena finished. “First of all, Julian Blake? As in 'the' Julian Blake? The billionaire entrepreneur? That’s insane.” Elena nodded, her cheeks flushing. “I know. It’s… complicated.” “Complicated?” Claire raised an eyebrow. “Elena, this is more than complicated. This is like something out of a romance novel. But Marcus sounds dangerous. What are you going to do?” Elena sighed, running a hand through her hair. “I don’t know. Julian said he’d protect me, but I can’t just rely on him. I need to figure this out on my own.” Claire nodded, her expression serious. “Okay. Let’s start by figuring out who Marcus is and what he wants. Maybe we can find something online.” They spent the next hour searching for information about Marcus Kane, but there wasn’t much to find. He was a businessman, like Julian, but his reputation was murky at best. There were rumors of shady deals and broken partnerships, but nothing concrete. “This isn’t helping,” Elena said, frustrated. “I need to talk to Julian. He’s the only one who can tell me what’s really going on.” Claire hesitated, then nodded. “Just be careful, okay? I don’t want you getting hurt.” The Meeting The next morning, Elena texted Julian: “We need to talk. Can you meet me?” His response was immediate: “Of course. My place, noon.” Elena’s heart raced as she got ready. She didn’t know what to expect, but she knew she needed answers. When she arrived at Julian’s penthouse, he was waiting for her, his expression serious. “Elena,” he said, pulling her into a hug. “Are you okay?” She nodded, but her voice trembled as she spoke. “I saw Marcus last night. He was outside my apartment, watching me.” Julian’s jaw tightened, and he led her to the couch, his hand resting lightly on her back. “I’m sorry,” he said. “I should have been more careful. Marcus is… unpredictable.” “What does he want?” Elena asked, her eyes searching his. “Why is he after me?” Julian hesitated, then sighed. “Marcus and I have a history. We used to be partners, but things went south. He blames me for his downfall, and he’s been trying to get revenge ever since.” Elena’s breath caught, and she felt a surge of fear. “But why me? What does he want with me?” Julian’s expression softened, and he took her hand. “He knows you’re important to me,” he said. “And he’ll use that to hurt me.” Elena’s heart raced, and she looked at Julian, her eyes wide. “What are we going to do?” Julian’s grip tightened, and his voice was firm. “We’re going to protect you. I’ll hire security, and I’ll make sure Marcus can’t get near you. But you need to trust me, Elena. Can you do that?” Elena hesitated, then nodded. “I trust you.” The Passion Julian leaned in, his lips brushing against hers in a kiss that was soft and tender at first, but quickly deepened into something more. Elena felt a surge of warmth, a sense of belonging she hadn’t felt in years. She leaned into him, her body responding to his touch, her mind spinning. When they finally pulled apart, Julian’s eyes were dark with emotion. “I won’t let anything happen to you,” he murmured. “I promise.” Elena nodded, her heart racing. She wanted to believe him, but the fear was still there, lurking in the back of her mind. The Threat Later that evening, Elena was back at her apartment, trying to focus on work. But her mind kept drifting back to Julian, to Marcus, to everything that had happened. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice the envelope slipped under her door until she almost tripped over it. She picked it up, her heart pounding. It was plain and unmarked, but something about it made her uneasy. She opened it and pulled out a single sheet of paper. The message was short and to the point: “Stay away from Julian. Or you’ll regret it.” Elena’s breath caught, and she dropped the note, her hands trembling. She grabbed her phone and dialed Julian’s number, her heart racing. “Elena?” he answered, his voice filled with concern. “Julian,” she said, her voice shaking. “I just got a note. It’s from Marcus. He’s threatening me.” Julian’s tone was sharp. “I’m on my way. Don’t open the door for anyone.” The Cliffhanger As Elena waited for Julian, she couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. She glanced out the window, her heart pounding. The street was empty, but she couldn’t shake the sense of dread. When Julian arrived, he pulled her into a hug, his grip firm and protective. “I’m here,” he murmured. “You’re safe.” But as Elena looked up at him, she saw something in his eyes—something that made her wonder if she’d ever truly be safe. The threat was real, and it was closer than she’d ever imagined.
