Jesse’s part of the plan was to wait, and he found the waiting to be intolerable. What was Gideon doing? Where was he? When should he start worrying? Sweat rolled down his neck and back, gluing his shirt to his skin. His tongue felt swollen. He needed a drink. The twinge in his ankle had faded, but he hoped he wouldn’t have to run that night—he wouldn’t make it far. As soon as he caught sight of the two vampires, he knew they were coming for him.
