Chapter 3: The Party
The weekend arrived faster than Zara expected, and she found herself getting ready for Axel's party. She had spent the week getting to know her new classmates, and she was excited to let loose and have some fun.
Luna arrived at her apartment, wearing a bright yellow sundress and a huge smile. "Hey, girl! You ready to party?" she asked, bouncing up and down.
Zara laughed, feeling a sense of excitement. "I think so! I'm not sure what's going to happen, though."
Luna grinned. "Don't worry, it's just a chill party. Axel's parents are out of town, so we're just gonna hang out and have some fun."
As they arrived at Axel's house, Zara's eyes widened in amazement. The house was huge, with a sprawling lawn and a pool that looked like it belonged in a resort.
Axel greeted them at the door, a cold drink in his hand. "Hey, ladies! Come on in," he said, smiling.
The party was already in full swing, with music blasting and people laughing and dancing. Zara felt a sense of trepidation, but Luna grabbed her hand and pulled her into the crowd.
As they danced and chatted, Zara noticed Zayn across the room, talking to a group of people. He looked up and caught her eye, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Zara felt a flutter in her chest, but she quickly looked away, telling herself she was being ridiculous.
Luna grabbed her hand again, pulling her towards the pool. "Come on, Zara! Let's go swimming!" she said, already stripping off her dress.
Zara hesitated, unsure if she was ready to get in the pool, but Luna was already jumping into the water. Zara laughed, feeling a sense of freedom, and followed her in.
The water was cool and refreshing, and Zara felt her worries melting away. She swam around for a bit, laughing and splashing with Luna and the others.
As she got out of the pool, she saw Diana and her friends standing by the edge, looking like they were up to no good. Zara's instincts told her to be wary, and she quickly grabbed a towel to wrap around herself.
Dawn, the captain of the cheerleading squad, sneered at her, her eyes raking over Zara's wet hair and clashing with her own perfect makeup. "Look at you, trying to fit in with the cool kids," she said, her voice dripping with malice.
Zara smiled sweetly, feeling a sense of confidence. "I'm just trying to have fun, Diana. You should try it sometime," she replied, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Diana's eyes narrowed, and she picked up a drink from the nearby table. "Oh, I think I'll have fun, all right," she said, her voice dripping with malice.
Zara saw the drink coming and quickly dodged to the side, but Diana wasn't aiming for her. She was aiming for Zara's beautiful white dress, which was hanging on the back of a chair.
But Zara was too quick, and Diana ended up spilling the drink all over her own designer dress.
The crowd gasped in shock, and Diana's friends rushed to her side, trying to help her clean up the mess.
"You...you...!" Diana stammered, her face red with anger and embarrassment.
Zara smiled, feeling a sense of satisfaction. "Oops," she said, trying to look innocent. "Looks like someone needs to work on their aim."
The crowd erupted into laughter, and even Zayn, who was watching from across the room, couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in amusement. Diana's face turned bright red with embarrassment, and she stormed off, her friends trailing behind her.
Luna grabbed Zara's hand, grinning. "Girl, you're a genius!" she exclaimed.
Zara laughed, feeling a sense of triumph. She was starting to get the hang of this high school thing.
Zayn watched Zara, his expression impassive, but his eyes gleaming with amusement. He had been watching her all night, and he was impressed. She was feisty, he had to give her that.
As the night wore on, Zara seemed to be having a great time, dancing and laughing with her friends. Zayn, on the other hand, was getting bored. He had only come to the party because Axel had begged him to, and now he was regretting it.
He decided to make a discreet exit, slipping out of the party without anyone noticing. As he walked home, he couldn't shake the feeling that he had just witnessed something special - a girl who was not afraid to stand up for herself, and who could handle herself with style and grace.
And he wondered if he would ever see her again.
