Back In The Cartel Mansion

“Sapphire!” I chuckled softly as Diego called my name for the second time. I loosened the pin from my hair and let my red waves cascade down my back like fire spilling over silk. I stood before the mirror, taking in the woman staring back at me. Tonight, I was dressed in black from head to toe. I wore a black silk, skin-tight off-shoulder gown that clung to my body like a second skin, every curve outlined with dangerous elegance. Over it, I draped a long black furry blazer that brushed against my thighs, adding an air of luxury and menace. The six-inch black heels beneath me made every step feel deliberate, sharp, and commanding. My lips were painted a deep black, dark as midnight, and my eyes were framed with a smoky look that made the hazel in them seem brighter and more feral. The only contrast came from the silver earrings and necklace I was fastening around my neck. Every detail of my appearance had one purpose. To look fierce. I was going to reveal myself to the Cartel family today and I had to make an entrance. Every single one of my enemies lived in that mansion, and I was more than willing to see every one of their faces again. I had a long list of painful surprises planned for them. It would not be a long drive. We were already in Italy, only hidden away in an isolated forest. I grabbed my bag and phone before making my way downstairs. Our luggage had already been packed and loaded into separate cars that left twenty minutes ago. Of course, I went shopping. I had to. My wardrobe for years had been nothing but training outfits, hoodies, crop tops, combat boots, and disguises. For this mission, I needed more. I stopped wearing dresses after my father died. I stopped wearing bright colors too. He was the only sunlight I ever had. After him, everything became shadows. So everything I bought was black, white, red, grey, nude, and peach. Colors that matched grief. “You look beautiful, Sapphire.” I looked down at Diego as I descended the stairs. He was dressed in a black tuxedo, his grey hair styled professionally, though I could still see the discomfort in the way he adjusted his collar. I smiled warmly as I walked over to him. “We have to be the best-dressed revenge seekers in the world.” His face lit up with amusement. “What can I say?” he said with a chuckle. “We have to break records and necks as well.” I shook my head playfully at his dangerous sense of humor. He was the only family I had left, and I was grateful that he trusted me enough to let this happen. If it were left to him, the Cartel mansion would already be in flames. “Alright, we have to go now,” he said, fixing his tie. “Let’s not keep the Cartels waiting. Besides, we need to make a grand entrance at their annual board meeting.” I knew how uncomfortable he was. Diego preferred hoodies, sweatpants, and the smell of leather gloves over tuxedos and polished shoes. “Okay,” I said, exhaling slowly. “Let’s move.” We stepped outside and made our way to the black Range Rover parked under the trees. “Let’s go, Sean,” I said to our driver. He gave a quick salute and started the car. **Two hours later** We arrived in Italy. We met up with the cars carrying our luggage and drove straight toward the Cartel mansion. The guards tried to stop us at the gates. Of course, I had already prepared for that. We arrived in one black Range Rover, while our belongings came in three separate cars behind us. “Who are you? Do you have an invitation?” Lucas. One of the senior guards. His voice grated against my nerves. I recognized him instantly. He was one of the men ordered to oversee my beatings. I removed my sunglasses slowly and stepped out of the car. “Do you need my help?” Diego whispered. I only shrugged and walked toward Lucas. He stood in front of the massive iron gates, his gun tucked casually into his pocket, leaning arrogantly against one of the vehicles. Lucas was tall, broad, and insufferably self-important. His blue eyes had seen more cruelty than most men could survive. “Open the gates,” I said calmly, pointing at him. He frowned. “And why exactly would I listen to you?” I took a step closer. “Besides the fact that I can snap your neck before your men even blink, you’ll listen to me because I am your boss’s wife.” His expression darkened as he took a proper look at me. There were about forty guards outside. Every one of them is armed. It would take me roughly ten minutes to kill them all. But I did not have time to waste. The annual meeting was already nearing its climax, and I needed to make my entrance before it ended. Besides, I had no intention of ruining this dress. Fighting in it would be inconvenient. So tonight, words would have to do. “Madam Sapphire?” At least he remembered my name. “Let me in. Now.” My voice came out cold and sharp. I was one second away from pulling the knife hidden beneath the slit of my dress. Where exactly had I tucked it again? Lucas shifted uneasily. “I’m only letting you in because I recognize you as his wife. I could get into trouble for this—” I rolled my eyes. “I don’t care, so shut up and open the gate.” With that, I turned and got back into the car. Moments later, the gates opened and we drove in. The mansion looked exactly as I remembered. Massive. Golden. Obscene in its luxury. The entire estate looked more like a kingdom than a home. Nothing had changed. There were close to a hundred cars outside. Today was the annual meeting for all their investors. I had chosen this day very carefully. “This place is more guarded than I remember,” Diego said as he scanned the area from the passenger seat. “How many men are here?” I surveyed the surroundings. “Two hundred men,” I said calmly. “Minus the ones inside and at the outer entrance.” Diego smirked. “You know more than your teacher now.” He glanced toward the entrance. “What do we do if things don’t go as planned?” I turned to face him fully. “I already have four spies inside.” I lifted my hand slightly. “The rings I’m wearing each contain mini explosives.” His brows rose slightly. “This is one of the most heavily guarded mansions in all of Italy, so we have to be smart. There are cameras, spies, and at least one hundred guards spread across this entire estate.” I lowered my voice. “If anything goes wrong, tell the drivers to execute Plan B.” I adjusted the ring on my finger. “For our escape, I have a helicopter on standby.” Then I looked toward the mansion. “But trust me, nothing is going out of hand.” A slow smile touched my lips. “In one hour, I will be known as the lady of this house again.” I turned back to him. “And you’ll be in the VIP room.” I tapped the earpod in his ear. “Always keep this on.” Then I pointed to his glasses. “The lenses contain mini cameras.” That part was important. The Cartels were dangerous. And tonight, so was I.
