Along the way to Lovecare Hospital, Ethan was dazed, unconsciously following the elderly man in a dark suit to the outside the ICU. Only when he saw his mother covered with instruments did he awaken to reality. A rush of wild joy, excitement and gratitude came over him.
A doctor came out from the ICU and said to the elderly man respectfully, "Andrew, the liver transplant surgery was successful."
Ethan was stunned because he recognized this doctor was Dr. White, a guest professor at many universities, yet showed such great respect to the elderly man.
Andrew smiled and complimented, "You truly live up your reputation as a top expert in liver cancer. Thank you for your efforts."
"It's my honor to offer you medical services." Dr. White turned to Ethan with smile and continued, "Ethan, once your mother gets through post-operative adjustment period, she can be considered full recovery."
Ethan's eyes turned red; he replied with gratitude, "Thank you so much, Dr. White."
Dr. White took Ethan by the shoulder and said, "It's my duty as as doctor. Go visit Freya." The fact that the big shot Andrew came over here in person made Dr. White wonder about Ethan's identity.
Ethan, who had been long honed in the workplace, noticed Dr. White's change in attitudes after Andrew appeared. Dr. White had always been polite to him, but now it was more like a sense of reverence from a subordinate to a superior.
"I'll leave you to it." Dr. White looked at Andrew and said, "Andrew, I've informed the director. How about meeting him?"
Andrew slightly shook his head and looked through the glass at Freya, "I'm here for personal matters; I'll visit the director next time."
As Dr. White departed, Ethan bowed deeply to Andrew with tear-dimmed eyes, saying, "Thank you for your help. I'll never forget it."
Andrew helped it up hurriedly and said, "Young Master Ethan, please get up. You're esteemed; you don't need to bow to a humble servant like me."
Being addressed as "Young Master", Ethan began to calm down from the joy of Freya's successful surgery. He had lived with his mother in poverty since childhood. Only when he started to work after graduation did their financial situation improve. How could someone of his status possibly have such a capable servant.
Andrew explained, "My visit is at the behest of your father, also my Lord."
Ethan changed colour, shocked. The word "father" was unfamiliar to him; Freya told him that his father had passed away before he was born.
Ethan shook his head in a trance and said, "My father had passed away."
Andrew said with pride, "Your father fell in love with Freya and had you. To protect you and Freya, he had no choice but to return his family. Now, he has become the head of the family."
"If my father is still alive and as powerful as you claim, why has he never once come back to see us?" Ethan looked inside the ward with his hands trembling and angered, "Why wait until my mother is almost gone and then only send you?"
"He was protecting you," Andrew explained. "Your father has taken control of his family and has always felt guilty about not being there for you. He sent me here to try to make amends for the past twenty years."
"Make amends? With what?" Ethan's eyes filled with rage, the years of heartache came to the surface as tears filled his eyes. "Does he have any idea how we've lived? I've been called names all my life, and my mother worked herself to exhaustion daily to support us. Her illnesses are a direct result of her grueling life!"
"What is done can't be undone." Andrew handed Ethan a Redbud Bank Card. "But from now on, you and your mother must be the noblest people in the world."
Looking at the bank card, Ethan exploded like a volcano and roared, "He vanished twenty years ago yet now uses money to make me accept him as my father?"
"Whether you acknowledge it or not, you're still his son," Andrew was unfazed with his anger and said, "This card is just a greeting gift. With it, you can live a comfortable life."
Andrew continued, "Lord Thomas is busy with the black sheep of the family. Once he's done, he will bring you two back to the family; you will become the sole heir of the Thomas family. Power, wealth, and beauties will all be at your disposal."
By the time he regained his composure, Andrew had vanished.
Ethan turned the bank card over to find a note with Andrew's contact information on the back.
After a moment, he rubbed his face and refocused his attention on Ruby in the ICU. To him, nothing Andrew had said mattered more than Ruby's well-being.

The next morning, after spending the night caring for Ruby, Ethan had just managed to catch a bit of rest when he received a call from Isabella, pressing him to finalize their divorce. Without much conversation, he arrived on time for their appointment.
The divorce process was swift, but as Ethan was about to leave, Isabella, watching his indifferent departure, suddenly felt a pang of bitterness.
Throughout their four years of dating and three years of marriage, she had never seen him behave so coldly.
Angrily stomping her foot, she yelled at him, "Ethan, just remember, I'm the one dumping you. I'm the one who wanted this divorce, and you better not regret it!"
"I won't regret it," Ethan said with a brief glance at her before walking away firmly.
After the divorce paperwork, Ethan didn't take Isabella to the court, having her returned the 100 thousand dollars. This was his final kindness to the marriage.
Isabella was left speechless as she watched his determined back.
Just then, an Audi A5 stopped in front of Isabella. Her brother, Daniel, poked his head out and smiled cheekily, "Have you divorced with that loser?"
"Of course," Isabella strangely glanced at Daniel and continued, "Are you still my brother? I've just experienced divorce. Why are you so happy?"
"Isabella, cheer up. Ethan's a loser who was never worthy of you. Your divorce from him deserves a celebration." Daniel laughed heartily.
Isabella quickly changed the subject and said, "By the way, how are things with your girlfriend?"
Daniel scowled and replied, "Don't even ask. Bonnie works at a bank and meets wealthy people all the time. I told her we'd buy a house before getting engaged, but the 100 thousand dollars from Ethan wasn't enough. We still need to find more money. You've got to help me!"
Isabella sighed, "You're my brother; how could I not help you? But I'm seeing what I can do."
Meanwhile, Ethan walked into a nearby bank.
Although he disliked the idea of accepting financial help from his father and Andrew, he couldn't ignore that money was necessary to ensure better ongoing treatment and a higher quality of life for Ruby.
Just as Ethan entered the bank, an employee welcomed him. She worn professional attire with black stockings on her legs. "Sir, what can I help you?" Surprised, Ethan recognized it was none other than Daniel's girlfriend, Bonnie Jackson.
