Chapter 5

Relieved at Ethan's response, Bonnie quickly requested the night off from Peter to prepare for the evening. This involved both her and Peter's prospects; Peter even obtained Ethan's phone number from his bank information illegally. However, as she hurried out of the bank, she bumped into Daniel, who was just getting out of his car. He was blissfully unaware of her frustration and cheerfully said, "Bonnie, got off work early today? Perfect. Let's find a spot to play some video games. I've mastered some new moves; I'll show you what a real gamer looks like." Irritated by his gaming obsession, Bonnie thought, 'Is gaming all you think about? Here I am, planning to entertain a major client in the presidential suite, and you are bragging about video games?' Holding back her frustration, she said, "Daniel, I have to work late tonight. Let's reschedule for another time." Daniel paused, puzzled. "But we had plans after dinner to play games together tonight!" Bonnie's patience was wearing thin. She knew Daniel was a deadbeat, but he had the means to buy a house outright—an impossible feat for her alone in this city. Peter only saw her as a casual fling and would never actually commit. Considering the house, Bonnie took a deep breath, softened her voice, and said, "I really need to stay at work tonight. We'll catch up another time. You head on home." After getting rid of Daniel, Bonnie thought about the night ahead with a mix of anticipation and shame. Today was meant to be her big break, but her impulsiveness had muddled it. She didn't mind the idea of being desired by a wealthy man, or even making the first move—after all, that was what she wanted. However, her rash actions earlier had changed the dynamic; she couldn't just confidently showcase her charm and enjoy the attention. Now, she had to take a more submissive role; she had to prepare herself to be exploited. *** Ethan rented a two-bedroom apartment nearby Lovecare Hospital, served as a residence for taking care of his mother and later for her recovery period after discharge. After signing the rental agreement, he hastily moved from the house he shared with Isabella with the help of a mover. When he opened the door, the room inside was in disarray, which left him heartbroken. All Isabella's belongings were moved out, and the remaining items that belonged to him and his mother was scattered all over the floor. On the ground was their wedding photo, which was torn in half, leaving only his image on it. The only photo of he and his mother was also trampled on the ground, the frame shattered into pieces, with clear footprints on top. Ethan picked up the photo, gritting out his teeth and forcing out a sentence, "Were my mother and I so worthless to you?" Taking a deep breath, Ethan carefully put the photo in his pocket. He then arranged for the mover to start moving. After moving all his stuff to the new apartment and organizing well, it was already 6 pm when he received a text message from Bonnie. He stretched and headed to the hotel where Bonnie stayed. That evening, in a luxurious suite at the top of a five-star hotel, Bonnie lounged by the floor-to-ceiling windows, draped in a bathrobe with her hair still damp from the shower. She swirled a glass of red wine, her cheeks tinged with a rosy flush as she gazed out at the city lights, a mix of anticipation and embarrassment on her face. 'Why hasn't he arrived yet? Could he be...' Bonnie lived in poor family, so she tried every means to climb up the social ladder. The bank job gave her a relatively glamorous identity in this city, and also made her develop a unique sense of pride. She became Daniel's girlfriend, not because she loved him deeply, but because Daniel could give her what she wanted. An apartment was enough for her to establish here. Even if she had better goals in the future, she was not left with nothing if she divorced Daniel. However, what she did impulsively in the afternoon forced her no longer pride and endured endless humiliation. If she could start over, she would definitely choose another better way, which is also her dreamy scenario. The door beeped—Ethan entered, taking in the seductive ambiance and Bonnie reclining on the sofa. He maintained a stoic expression, though internally, he was full of contempt. 'The Brown family has placed this woman on a pedestal, even risking my mother's life for her, and now here she is in this room, ready to please me. What will they think if they found out?' "Mr. Thomas." Upon seeing Ethan finally arrive, Bonnie brightened up and flashed a flirtatious smile. She stood and sashayed over. "Mr. Thomas, I'm really sorry about this afternoon." She poured two glasses of wine, offering one to Ethan and lightly touching her lips to her glass, "To celebrate clearing up our misunderstanding, shall we toast?" Ethan calmly took the wine glass. "Aren't you aware that misusing a bank client's personal information is a serious issue?" Bonnie paused; she was truly surprised by his reaction. Quickly regaining her composure, she giggled coyly. "Wasn't it all just to make amends to you?" "And how do you propose to make amends?" Ethan set his glass aside, showing no interest in drinking. Bonnie shifted into full seduction mode. Ethan smiled faintly and drained the red wine in one gulp. Before he could put down the wine glass, Bonnie rushed towards him. Slap! The glass fell to the ground, shattering into pieces.
